Pretty much all of them that are worth playing have been translated into English already. If you go to romhacking.net you can sort through them by Genre and read a short review with screenshots for all of them. Most of the ones listed there are probably pretty hard to play in Japanese tho.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (AKA: The Lost Levels) I believe was later re-released as a Famicom cartridge, and is a game that you owe yourself to play if you're a gamer.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I'm extremely sure it's never been re-released as a Famicom cart.

Really?

I heard that Nintendo had first released games on the Famicom Disc System, then later on as higher capacity cartridges became cheaper re-released most of their first and second party catalog on cartridge format.

Anyhow the Famicom Disc System is compatible with the Generation Nex, so that's another possible option to consider.

Some, but definitely not most, FDS games were re-released on cartridges. The Legend of Zelda was definitely one of them that was re-released. SMB2, Metroid, Zelda II, Kid Icarus, Excitebike and a ton of other notable games are FDS only, from what I know. These are games that I come across FDS versions of when I'm in game shops, but I NEVER see Famicom versions of.

There's many pirate carts based on The Lost Levels but from the rom dumps I've seen none are very well made. I think the best one was dumped by TheRedEye . It has the correct physics intact (wind and all), but a few graphics were modified in that one. Loopy used it to to make a rom patch that made the game playable on Pocketnes and apparently it's been successfully injected back on to a real famicom cart even.

Go play Cocoron (video at www.TheVgaTV.com ). Basically it's a platformer in the vein of Mega Man, but you get to completely customize your character (and it affects gameplay). You want to be an Alien Headed Dunebuggy that spits Shruikens? You can do it. Plus you get to rescue Santa Clause from an Ice Dragon. Good times.

If you don't mind the Japanese, or can read it, you could get mother.
