Wired!!!
Wired!!!
This is bizarre, but I was wondering if you guys could post some pictures of your wires. I am having the biggest obsession right now with the mess of wires behind all of my systems. I know we have talked about those long tubes you can shove all the wires in, but I am trying to do this without spending money (in other words those twist ties you get in boxes of garbage bags).
Re: Wired!!!
That's a bizarre fetish...
Re: Wired!!!
strange fetish indeed I freaking hate all the wiring in my house due to my being a geek and when possible cut down on it with wireless.

Re: Wired!!!
It drives me crazy when I have wires all over the place and not organized. I use cable ties to keep everything clean, organized, and manageable. I use wireless solutions as well if possible to cut down on cable clutter...

Re: Wired!!!
I've got a mess of wires behind my entertainment center. Things get messy when you have 9 consoles hooked up. Good thing I have two system selectors so I never really have to go back there when I want to play a different console.
Re: Wired!!!
I lay wires anywhere and everywhere it's convenient. Why bother fighting entropy?
We are prepared to live in the plain and die in the plain!
Re: Wired!!!
well I got some plastic tubing and also some zip ties so I should be set between the two!
Re: Wired!!!
Once I tried something, but it isn't always practical... I would tie up the slack of each wire with a twist tie. In my bedroom, I don't ever have to move my consoles (or DVD player, VCR, cable box, etc) so instead of having extra wire to get tangles, I use to have just enough wire to get from A to B and the rest was tied up. Now a days, it's just a giant cluster fuck.
My basement den, I have this new thing going on... All my systems are on a self above my TVs. I can't use them when they're up there (even if the controller was long enough, it would hang down from above the TV) so I would take one down if I wanted to play it, sit it on the floor halfway between my TV and my couch.
My new thing is kinda neat though. I don't have any system "hooked up" permanently. When ever I want to use a system I take it down from the shelf, plug in the A/V to my TV's front ports, plug in the power and play. When I'm done, I put the wires in a draw along with my controllers. It's been working out pretty good, and there's never a mess of tangled wires!
Granted this wouldn't work for everyone. I wouldn't be able to do this in my bedroom. But it works great for my setup down there.

Re: Wired!!!
I just disassembled to move but here's the deal that I found reduced a ton of wiring.
TV in center and a tower on either side.
Tower on Right of TV has the AV reciever, also a component switcher. All HD consoles went on that side and the wires got wrapped. The other tower held older consoles again with a switcher for them. The switcher stretched over to the AV unit in the other tower.
The real magic to clean things up was the power wiring. I ran one large surge protector to right behind the tv. From that I got 2 power strips and connected one into each tower.
Everything was wire tied. My goal was simply to keep the wires running the shortest distance possible.
That said it took me about 2 days to take apart.. I fear going back together is going to take much longer. I'll take pictures when that happens next weekend.
