Buying advince on ps2's

Post by RCBH928 »

I know this would sound crazy but
do you think I should still hold back on buying a ps2?

I do not really need one, but its so slim and small and can play everything from ps1/ps2 , and mod chips are going to be supported for years to come I am guessing. I am not sure if they will be cheaper(do you think they will?) , or you think this is as good as it gets?

I am in no hurry, but for $100 why not just add it to your collection?
I had to pay more for my Dreamcast

If I recall, you're not in the US, so I'm not sure if my advice still holds. My feeling here in the USA though is that the super cheap prices on PS2 won't last too much longer. It's holding on longer than the Xbox and Gamecube, but they will start phasing the PS2 out of more mainstream shops like GameStop and Game Crazy before too long. Once that happens, it will be harder to find games and they will therefore be more expensive because of their perceived rarity. I can already get PS2 games cheaper than N64 and SNES games at the vintage shops in my area. I would invest now and buy hella PS2 games while they are still cheap because it will only get more expensive later.

There is always a second hand market.
Mod chip is necessary.

I am not sure if I want to spend that money on ps2 instead of a Saturn which I would like to own or an original psx. I wonder if I just go with used. But new is tempting too

You don't need a mod chip. Any PS2 memory card that says "magicgate" on it can be loaded with FreeMC boot, which is as good as any modchip. You just have to patch your ISOs before you burn them, or better yet, load them from hard disk.

If you're going to get a Saturn though, I'd go ahead and do it. Who knows how much longer mod chips for them will be available. It's already impossible to get a chip for a model 1 saturn. You can take your time getting a PSX though. The chips for those are simple PICs that anyone can burn with a simple programmer.

Hell, on the PS1 you don't even need a modchip. You can just get a small device that plugs into the parallel port and enables playing of backups.

Yeah the only original PlayStation systems I trust are the 9000 series with their solid metal drives, rock solid lasers and higher all around quality of construction when compared to other older models.

That having been said I've never had a single PSone (the slim revision) break on me ever as they're built on the same all steel high quality design as the 9000 series original PlayStations.

I don't know about that, all I know is my 7501 has been working great using the aforementioned method.

Tell me more about this magicgate thing
I can insert a memory card in the ps2 and it will run backups?
