Website tries to protect gay rights, with bad method

Post by ZeroAX »

I believe plenty of you, must have seen this by now

Image

which is part of a promotion by a website, to make people sensitive about the way gay people feel, when gay as a word, is mainly used as an insult on the internet.

Now I'm not starting this thread so as to talk about gay rights ect. ect, but rather
how stupid this campaign is.

I mean really, you think the best way to make people feel sensitive about something, is freaking INSULTING THEM?

No that doesn't make me feel sorry for the group it's trying to protect (talking about a random example here, not gay people in particular). Instead it makes me mad, cause I felt like the random group just insulted me. And if they are going to drop to school yard level, then I'll drop to it as well and insult them back.

Really the people that came up with this are idiots, and I believe it will only make things worse for the poor people it tried to help in the first place.

I agree that using 'gay' a pejorative is fairly stupid, but..c'mon. Seriously? This is the wrong way to go about it. Besides, we have the right to offend other people.

So, gay people are mad about the stigma associated with their culture? I know! To solve the problem, they should toss around generalizations and insult other groups of people. That'll make them more popular.

Seriously, I hate these things. Gay rights activists need to stop being so arrogant.

 ...This is so fucking stupid. Now what if you're offending someone who doesn't even use the term "gay". "thats so gamer guy with more games than friends", now what if a person was gay and a gamer with more games than friends? All I wanted to say was how stupid this is. Now you're offending innocent people and maybe gay people even. Bleh.

It's just another in the long line of hilariously bad radio PSAs. You can hear a few here (with appropriate commentary):

As do I, and many others who are being insulted. The ad isn't saying that using gay as an insult is hurtful, it's just offending the people who do have more games than friends.

The ESA advocates for gamers the same way the National Cattlemen's Association advocates for cows.
