DS Paddle Controller

Post by fast »

So a friend of mine sold me the Japanese version of Arkanoid DS very cheap so I had to say yes. Sealed with the paddle was hard to say no to. So I am curious if anyone knows any games it works well for apart from Arkanoid and Space Invaders Extreme? I know it works for Mario Kart DS - and by the looks of it it looks like it just emulates the left to right motion on the dpad. I havent got to give it a go yet, I got it during lunch and am still at work.

The device if you have never seen one:

How does that version of Space Invaders play? Im not a big Space Invaders fan, more of a Galaga one, but I am on the look out for a copy of it since Ive got the spinner.

Upon researching it, the Mario Kart was accomplished with an Action Replay and a string of code that activated the paddle. Ohwell.

It's the best version of Space Invaders in 30 years. All around win.

And that paddle looks pretty nice. Doesn't seem to be just emulating the dpad, it's real analog control. Nice. There hasn't been a system with a paddle controller for a while.

it plays really really well. Both paddle games respond very well to it. Baring actually having an arcade with a wheel, this is the best you are going to get. No question.

Excellent, thanks fellas.

To be honest I am not a big Arkanoid fan. Sure I own Alleyway, but it is a bit different. But I figured it was neat and for a good price so I would go for it. I just hope I dont get hooked to the point I build a spinner for my EEE...

I agree that Space Invaders Extreme is fantastic even without the paddle. Its fast paced and the visuals and audio are fantastic. Dont just take my word for though:

I definitely recommend picking up Space Invaders Extreme. It's a good game and even more fun with the paddle. Arkanoid DS is a pretty dismal version of Arkanoid. They screwed it up by making it incredibly easy and the paddle just makes it easier. I love Arkanoid, but I literally almost fell asleep playing this version.

Space Bust-A-Move just came out and should have paddle support too. At least the Japanese version did.

I keep waiting for a homebrew developer to utilize the power of the DS paddle, but so far I haven't found anything other than a version of Pong. One player Pong isn't too much fun. A DS version of Kaboom! or Arkanoid on a NES emulator that supports the paddle would make me incredibly happy.
