Jordan not in NBA JAM

from the onion:

Michael Jordan Wondering Why He Wasn't In NBA Jam

Image

HIGHLAND PARK, IL—After finding his old Super Nintendo in a routine cleaning of his attic, basketball great Michael Jordan was stunned to find that he did not appear as a playable character in the 1993 game "NBA Jam" and was at a loss to explain why. "I don't understand. I'm Michael Jordan, I should be in that game," said Jordan who had no success finding his likeness in the Arcade, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Game Boy or Game Gear versions. "Scottie being there makes sense, but Horace Grant? Seriously? And how can Tom Gugliotta be in this game and not me? I could swear they paid me a $100 million licensing fee." Jordan then popped in a copy of "Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City" and played for ten minutes before tossing the controller on the table and taking a nap.

I realize it's the Onion, but I always understood that Jordan wasn't in NBA Jam and some versions of EA's NBA Live because the companies wouldn't pay him a gigantic liscense fee and he had a deal with the NBA players union on his sole likeness. In fact I think one NBA live game there is just a #23 on the Bulls while all the other players were named.

Also, I think 1993 is the year he was suspended for gambl...umm...I mean retired to play baseball, so he wasn't on the Bulls.

I remember when I got this game, popped it in, and was devastated when MJ wasn't in the game. Oh well, at least I had Stockton and Malone to kick butt with. 8)

Man, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs during the Bulls dynasty. It wasn't even an option to use another team. Plus, Scottie Pippin was an insane player. Just make sure Grant never throws a three and you're going to stomp the competition.

I also grew up in Chicago (a few blocks away from Jefferson Park) but moved to NC the same year the Bulls began their first 3-peat. Rats.

I always picked Charlotte
