32X Issues

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

Well I just got my 32x in today, but have run into some issues. Whenever I turn my Sega CD on with the 32X inserted I get a clean picture, but whenever I try to play a Genesis or 32X game all I get is a black screen.

Does anybody know what might be wrong?

Did you insert all of the cables? I remember hearing about that issue with people that only have the cartridge.

Does the 32x work with no CD attachment? Playing both Genesis and 32x games? Does the CD Unit play 32xCD games when it is attached?

All the cables are inserted properly.

I've tried it alone on my Model 2 Genesis, alone on my Model 1 Genesis and With my Model 1 Genesis/Model 2 Sega CD combo getting the same result every time.

I've tried scrubbing it's contacts where it connects to the Genny's cart slot as well and now I'll occasionally get the TMSS Sega license screen followed by nothing, so I don't know what exactly is going on.

So it isnt working with any of the combinations (by working i mean playing 32x or Genesis games?) I have a 32x unit that had the same issues. Never figured out what was wrong... Went out and got a different 32x unit and have had no issues. I took the non-working unit apart, made sure everything looked good on the inside and never found anything wrong with it. It is still sitting in its box under the bed waiting for me to take it apart again and figure out why it wont work

If you cant get it working, at least you have all of the wires ( i hope) and they are the hardest part to get. You can get a 32x no wires pretty cheap

Inside the 32X are two separate boards. One board connects to the other via something similar to a cart slot. There are also ribbon cables. Disassemble the unit and clean those internal cart and ribbon slots and it will very like begin to work properly assuming you have all the external cables attached appropriately.

You sir, Rock!

I took it apart, cleaned the ribbon cables and also took the opportunity to vigorously scrub the contacts that go into the Genesis's cart slot and now have a fully working 32x.

I can't wait for Knuckles' Chaotix to come in the mail!

Also How's the 32X version of Virtua Fighter, any other games you guys recommend?

The Virtua fighter game is good, but very dated. The Star Wars Arcade game is really good 2. :)
