Hello
I am looking for advice on buying a PSX.
This console holds a lot of nostalgia for me. It was so cool back then with its CD, and buttons that had shapes instead of letters! The innovative controller and the sleek design, it really was an icon for the future.
But I want advice on what is the prices on these things(new/used) ? Are they reliable or am I expected to have a broken one of the other? How about memory cards, I recall those were not reliable even back when they were new?
Also it is very important that it is modded with a chip and can play backups.
I know there might be better options like psone and ps2 and ps3 that can play psx games but the whole idea is to own and play the old gray model. I usually am satisfied with the game on emulation, but not in the psx case I want the console.

Re: buy PSX
You can get a non-modded one for $15 easy. I have no idea what modded ones go for. Memory cards can be had for about $5 each at game stores that carry them.

To quote some info already posted in one of your old threads:
To clarify further here is a list of all the models and their pros and cons.
The reason those particular models would be your best bet is because they have the newer CD-ROM drive assembly that is facing away from the PSU and doesn't break down as quickly as the old ones. You should avoid ALL models before SCPH-500x because these had the old CD-ROM drives that warped under extended use and are all probably close to breaking/broken completely by now. It's just not worth the risk, pay the extra dosh for a 5, 7, 75 or 9 series PSX and get a machine that is going to last you.Niode wrote:I'd buy a PS1, but I would get either an (where x is your region, I.E., 0/3 - NTSC-J, 1 - NTSC-U, 2 - PAL) SCPH-500x or SCPH-900x.
One thing I would mention is that the SCPH-500x series is that they still have the parallel port and therefore are able to take the old action-replay things that could bypass copy protection and region. The SCPH-900x had the parallel port removed so you cannot go down this route if you want to play imports/backups.
Hope this helps

Re: buy PSX
As long as it is the huge gray model and is modded I do not care....
but how can I go hunting for SCPH-900 NTSC-U ,
extra $ are no worries(when reasonable) I won't fight around for $10-15 more
but looking for something reliable. You think new ones can be found?
I am trying to search on ebay and amazon but I do not think I can go around asking is this an SCPH-900x
looking for something in mint condition, new controller if possible

Re: buy PSX
snowkitty sells pre-modded ps1's in the for sale section here -> http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=12043
Re: buy PSX
If they want the sale they won't mind. If they get pissy about you asking questions about an item then you don't really want to be doing business with them anyway.kingmohd84 wrote: I am trying to search on ebay and amazon but I do not think I can go around asking is this an SCPH-900x
