Your favourite E3 announcement...!

Post by MrEco »

What was your absolute favourite announcement at E3 this year?

Mine was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. I never played a game in the Crystal Chronicles series, but it looks really good. Plus it's a Wii exclusive, which I honestly wasn't expecting. The Wii has no RPG's that I know of and it's nice to see some coming in the future.

An honorable mention goes to Sony for announcing that the PS2 will not stop being awesome. 8)

I'm kinda glazed over by all of the news, but the standouts to me are...

Mario Galaxy 2
Team ICO's next game...
Beatles Rock Band demo...
More PS1 games on PSN

...that's the stuff that appeals to me.

So there are a few RPGs the Wii has. There's Baroque (roguelike) and Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World. Coming soon is Arc Rise Fantasia, and further down the line we're getting the new flagship Tales game and DQX.

Mario Galaxy 2.

Microsoft's was really dissapointing. Practically everything they showed was on ps3 too. Alan Wake looks cool, but no cooler than it did when they first announced it years ago.

PS3 had god of war 3, last guardian, and uncharted 2. Unfortunately what they didn't have was a massive price drop announcement.

I don't know if there were any NEW announcements at E3 that interested me, but I was happy to see footage of Mass Effect 2, WET, and especially Brutal Legend. Seeing the lovely Eliza Dushku during the hands on with WET was a bonus, though her comment about fourteen year olds being the target audience for WET was ill-advised.

If Uncharted 2 plays as well as that demo looked, it will rock. I'm skeptical though. Reminds me of that awesome gameplay demo of Halo 2 that was nothing like anything that was in the final product.

Actually, one cool new thing that they announced which grabbed me. I was surprised by that new game Cliffy B is working on. Certainly looks more interesting than his silly Gears of War series.

Worse thing about E3? That new controller-free, motion control thing Microsoft is putting out. Seriously, are we even playing video games anymore? Now you speak and move your body to play. Geez, might as well just give me a virtual reality simulator like we saw in Star Trek or Minority Report. I know I should be more open minded and I know some people will love this, but it just looks...odd to me. Like we're moving away from what video games are. Realistic gameplay is something I am always pushing for, but when I have to actually move my body to simulate what my avatar does...well hell, I might as well just go outside and do something REAL. They showed one player sitting on a couch moving her arms like she was moving a real stearing wheel and moving her feet to control the gas and breaks. Um, can't I just go outside and get in my real car and do that?

Ugh, stupid casual gamers. Learn how to use a control for crissakes. It's not that hard.

Thumbs up to Steve Wiebe getting a kill screen. That guy seems like a genuinely cool person

Wait, why is it bad to try and search out innovative new control mechanics?

I have the multiplayer beta. The best I can describe it is an easier to play combination of metal gear online and assassin's creed. You can climb most things and take cover and all that, but you can still shoot from around whatever you're hanging off of. I think it's a blast. I really like where the co op is going too. They look like they are relevant to the plot of the story mode and have their own cutscenes and dialogue explaining what's going on. From what I played, you play as one of three supporting characters or Drake, from the game, and they interact with eachother as you accomplish tasks. It's just one level, but so far, I'm impressed. I think my favourite announcement at E3 had to be The Last Guardian and the demo of using the motion controls to manage an RTS on ps3. Is there anything like this on the wii?
