RIP Sega Saturn

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

My SEGA Saturn decided to call it quits today. The laser has been fussing out for about the last year, it was being very selective on what games it would play etc. Now it finally bit the dust, I used my brand new copy of Doom and even after cleaning the laser not even that will run, I even ajusted the screw on the laser in hopes of getting some more life out of it, no luck. I'm sure I could replace the laser, but the cartridge slot is dead too. So RIP my lovely Saturn, 1996-2009. If only I had the money to buy a new one I would, so it looks like its all going in a box until then.

You might want to give the SSF emulator a try. I was playing with it the other day and was very impressed with the quality/performance of the emulator.

they can emulate a Saturn but not a N64 on a Wii...
go figure..

Any how , what is so upsetting?
It lived 13 years, some humans don't live that long!!
Not to mention after 13 years , you didn't play everything there is worth playing in the system?
Just in case you didn't realize , 13 years is the difference between a 7 year old and a 20 year old. Thats a lot!

That's not the same comparison. SSF runs on a PC. Most emulators are developed for the PC and then ported to other platforms. It depends if there's someone interested in doing this and willing to expend a lot of time/energy in doing the port. They don't get anything for their work except a sense of satisfaction.

You do know that there has been a group working on Wii64, right?

Like I said before, these people do it out of their own time/money so it's up to them if they ever actually complete the project or not.

It always amazed me those people who would spend a ton of time emulating top corporate consoles on PC's and then give it for free. Like those who upload torrents of latest movies like its their duty to do so , or write great software for free like VLC , Wii Homobrew, and FireFox. Always questioned why they do it so free. They can charge like a $1 and out of hundreds of thousands, they can make nice profit and it wont be much for any one. It is sometimes better than commercial products(like firefox).

But I am upset cause 64 games already play on the Wii, and its a cartridge system, and its from the year 96, It uses roms I am guessing its easy to emulate. While the Saturn is really complex hardware with multiple processors , CD based, and a lot more data to process I bet. No one was successful at it before.

I know its a PC and then it is a Wii, but still
