Post by IcKy99 »

So i just bought some S-Vid cables for my Saturn and my Dreamcast on an impulse

my DC's current cables arnt giving me any sound and the picture quality is not verygood on my my hdtv

and the saturns composite cables have weird color issues
its spotted and looks like a comic book on newsprint (if ya get what i mean)

so i got some cheap $12 S-Video cables for both, will the quality be much better with these on my 32" bravia???

One way to find out, try em. The quality should be as decent as it can be, but I know that my ps1 looks like crap running s-video on my lcd and plasma hdtv's.However my snes looks really quite nice.

best to run these systems on CRT monitors-they're cheap enough just buy one (if you have the room anyway) I would hook the DC up through a vga box. also monoprice has dirt cheap cables I bought a 12ft svideo for 8 bucks shipped

Everything will look pixelated on an HDTV (I have a 32" Bravia along w/ my 32" CRT). 2D systems you will at least get some extra detail out of the clarity if it looks blocky, while 3D systems prior to X-Box and even then look pretty bad. You will get better color etc though using S-Video, also, using an HDTV, you can turn sharpness down to reduce some of the pixelation, but then you might have just as well used composite.

My issue with the ps1 isn't how blocky the old hardware is,but a strange fuzzieness that I get. Tried different cables but to no avail.

I've had the same thing with my Dreamcast's svideo... as close as I can describe it as is "bit crawl", because it is a little sharper than regular RCA, but all of the colours come through looking, like you said, like an old printed comic book; like the colours are still separated into bits.

I have my ps2 hooked up through S-video, and it has all of the sharpness, but none of that "bit crawl"...... so ive accepted it and am preparing to buy a VGA box once and for all.

Just to let you know, im on my second S-video cable for the Dreamcast, with the same problem.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

I have a 32 Bravia and I had the same problem with the saturn ESPECIALLY that spotted checkered look. I bought the S-video cables and now, I mean it does look better but the newsprint is still there(and since I sit close to the TV when I game, I really spot it). I'm still very satisfied with my purchase though.

I have my Gamecube hooked up to an HDTV, and everything just looks like one big motion blur. Even when playing slow games like Pikmin, I have to slow down of stop every now and then so I don't get sick.

That has to be an incredibly slow refresh rate.
