Since my Wife updated our Wii to version 4.0, none of the Twilight hacks are supposed to work. I read about this Banner Bomb exploit that loads just from the SD card with no game needed and was wondering if anybody has tried it yet.
It supposedly works on every version of firmware so far including the new 4.0, but I don't know what the risks are in bricking the unit.
Banner Bomb Wii hack
Re: Banner Bomb Wii hack
I used it without any problems...you just have to read carefully and make sure you don't have the listed incompatible serial numbers. Good luck.
EDIT: Even better use this guide...it makes it quite easy.

Here's to hoping that I have a compatible system...

Re: Banner Bomb Wii hack
What exactly would I be able to do with this hack and what would I not be able to do?
Play backups, download WiiWare games, get stuff from Bitgamer, etc...
thanks

Re: Banner Bomb Wii hack
So back in the day there was the Twilight Hack, which let you use a hacked save file for Twillight Princess to let you launch any application from your SD card. Typically people would use it to get something like the Homebrew Channel onto their system so they can use any homebrew app more easily. There were several attempts to close the Twilight Hack loophole that were finally successful with system menu 4.
Now we have the Banner Bomb, which accomplishes the same thing. This is essentially the new way to get the Homebrew Channel installed on your Wii or other low-level homebrew installers like DVDx and BootMii. Once you have the Homebrew Channel you won't need to use Banner Bomb anymore, as most homebrew can be launched through the Homebrew Channel, such as the emulators for classic systems.

It will allow you to do the following things.
1. Boot backups (both gamecube and wii) from disc, sd card, or usb drive.
2. Allow emulators and other homebrew games/applications to be played.
3. Allow downgrades of firmware and such.
4. Allow Wiiware and Virtual Console stuff to be installed with wad manager.
5. With Bootmii you can supposedly make the wii brick proof, but I cannot vouch for that.
What you can NOT do is..
1. Burn backups of dual layer games such as smash bros. to disc.
2. Play backups at full speed from the DVD drive, they run at 3x.
3. Play all backups from dvd drive, some don't work for whatever reason.
4. Use cheap media.
5. Do anything with homebrew or other without a dedicated SD card for the wii.
