Elevator Action 2 (saturn)

Post by arion »

Now here is a good game that is pretty much unheard of. And i wouldn have known about it if i hadn been messing around with a little emulator called Raine (http://www.rainemu.com/) a few years back. So when i found out there was a saturn verison of Elevator action 2 i just had to try it. Now most of you might remember Elevator Action from the nes where you had to shoot enemy agents and go inside red doors to steal documents the same basic gameplay has been kept in elevator action 2 just with more action and explosions.

The story is simple. There is an evil organization out to make a new world order and its up to three special agents to put a stop to it.

The three agents range from the slow moving arnold type guy that has the most firepower but moves very slowly..then there is the long haired blonde guy that has medium firing power and speed..and then there is the girl agent that has the lowest firepower but moves the fastest. So picking an agent makes a diffrence in how the game plays out.

And as i said the gameplay is very similar to the original elevator action but the levels are more diffrent..the first level resembles the original most but after that you will be shooting it out in airports, underground sewers and even on an oil rig to mention a few. But one thing never changes you are always looking for the red door. There are also blue doors that may contain extra bombs, points, or more life if you havent been lucky in the shootouts.

Now the shooting bit is ofcourse what the game is all about and there is lots of that since enemy agents can reappear from doors endlessly so there is hardly ever a dull moment. And if there are too many you can just dispose of them with bombs..or my favorite run up to them and hit em with a melee attack wich not only cool but it grants extra points. Or be creative drop a bomb on a elevator going up and clear the area of enemies. The gameplay is simple but it allows for some tactical thinking too.

The music is also done very well and it puts the right mood for each level. The sound is good with some satisfying gunshots and explosions..but there is one thing i hate about it. Evertime the blonde agent gets hit he says "hey youre pretty good" in a very high pitched and annoying voice wich pretty much caused me to never play as that guy. But the other ones are surprisingly silent in comparison.

In conclusion elevator action 2 is a great 2d shooter. While it is simple it also has some depth definetly worth trying out.
