GCN question regarding Widescreen.

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

Okay. So I was playing my gamecube on an hdtv just to see the quality, I was happy to find out that most gamecube games get stretched fully to the edge of the screen. However, when I was playing 13, Luigi's Mantion, and Ikaruga I found that it does the annoying thing where even on full mode on the TV it leaves about an inch on each side of the TV. So anybody want to tell me why this is? Metroid, Mario Kart, and Viewtiful Joe all look wonderful on an HD set but It annoys me to no end that a lot of other games don't.

SOLVED: The reason many of these games wont fill under a full mode is because (especially on PS2) is due to overscan on CRT's. Many developers wouldn't render past the overscan points so they could use more power towards effects etc. vs resolution.

Wait, are you stretching 4:3 ratio games on a widescreen tv? If so, why wouldn't you just set your tv to 4:3 and play them in their original aspect ratio?

Because stretching them doesnt bother me as much as having giant black bars on the sides.

But... then they look wrong :( lol
My 14 year old brother does that too for some reason, he doesn't get it. If the bars bother you, why not just play them on a standard-def 4:3 TV, that way they are in their original resolution and ratio. Please tell me you don't play your old systems stretched as well.

Breaking the aspect ratios is dumb, and only dumb people do it.

I think its more a matter of taste than intelligence. With some games I break the ratio as well because it fills the screen and makes multiplayer games easier to see. It doesn't make the game any less enjoyable.......dummy.

No sir, you are, in fact, the dumb dumb face.

Seriously, just not feeling the motivation to argue this topic these days. I can't fathom how in the world people can play their games stretched wide, and I don't think I want to know.
