Japanese Dreamcast

Post by Fester »

After reading lots of post on this forum I have decided I NEED  a Dreamcast and after looking on Ebay it seems that you can pick up a JP DC almost as cheap as PAL DC. Now I might be jumping the gun a bit being new to gaming, so I thought it would be best to ask you guys if I should I go for a JP DC or be sensible and go for the PAL DC.

It honestly doesnt matter at all. If you're planning on playing backups well, any of the damn things will play back ups and if you're planning on playing imports any dreamcast will play those as well with a boot disc. It really comes down to very minascule asthetic preferences :P

Isn't the exception being Dreamcasts with a manufactured date after Oct 2000 lack the mil-cd support to play CD-Rs?

Isn't that an unconfirmed rumor?

not sure if its unconfirmed or not but i know ive heard it. The odds of getting a dreamcast manufactured after that time are very slim though so there isnt a whole lot of risk. The only dreamcast I know for sure that was only manufactured after that date is the jp sakura wars bundle model so be wary of that one.

The only problem I can forsee is that of power. Your in England, the land of the 220v, that Japanese Dreamcast is 100/110v. So you will need a stepdown converter. With that it might cost more than just buying one locally.

Honestly if you only care about the games it wouldnt be a bad idea to get a pal dreamcast due to the plugin set ups. they all work the same. but if your looking to also get like a special edition DC then japan is what you want. like others say you can play any region if you use back-ups and/or the boot disk.
