Direct sequel RPGs
Direct sequel RPGs
it seems like RPG series rarely make sequels that have the same characters. I'm trying to think some and all I can come up with are FF7 and FFX-2 games and I think Kingdom hearts does(not sure haven't played them). Seems to me that this would be an amazing way for developers to make money, I mean don't you think Chrono Cross would of sold more if it was marketed as a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger.

You might want to take a look at the Arc the Lad series.

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are directly related, as are devil summoner 1 and 2

Shadow Hearts is another one that I believe is a direct sequel. There's also Golden Sun, which is like DDS in that they are two halves to an overall game.
The biggest problem with doing a direct sequel is that bit of a disconnect where you were a total badass at the end of the first game, but now you're weak again at the start of the second.

There's always the Lufia series, where the ending to Lufia II is the beginning of Lufia. And there's always the hints in Final Fantasy Tactics that it's the same world as Final Fantasy 7 many centuries later.

How did I forget this?vejita wrote:Xenosaga
While Lufia II does lead directly into Lufia, there is the "100 years later" thing that makes it a direct sequel, same world, but completely new cast. Similarly FFT and FF7, potentially same world, but not same protagonists.Ack wrote:There's always the Lufia series, where the ending to Lufia II is the beginning of Lufia. Shining Force 1 and two of the Shining Force games for the Game Gear (or Shining Force CD for the Sega CD). The first Game Gear/Sega CD game is 20 years after SF1, and the second GG game is only years after the first GG game.
Most of the characters are not playable throughout each game, but many make appearances or are mentioned.

Re: Direct sequel RPGs
Well, apparently they are coming out with a direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV via Wii Ware

seriously, would it kill them to release this for the DS or something?
