You know you love The Pillows.
So I'm listening to music for the first time in forever, and as I'm going through my collection I spot my flcl soundtracks deciding what the heck (I'm in a very Japanese mood this week due to Animazement) I popped the CD's in. In the span of a few seconds I was reminded exactly why I love The Pillows, the sense that what I'm listening to can deceptively calm me down one second, and insanely decimate me the next. The incredibly well paced and varied playing style these guys manage to pull out of seemingly nowhere, and feeling that what I'm listening to could easily be the soundtrack to my daily life has recemented them as my favorite band again, plus it's about time I go back and re-watch flcl.

Ugh just replied to this and it got deleted!!! So annoyed. Anyhoo... The Pillows are one of my favorites. I got the chance to see them live with my bro-in-law and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. No one knew who they were so they just hung out in the back right by where we were standing and they were so nice. I have a coupe pics, but I cannot remember how to post them.

My pillow has been with me for as long as I can remember. I have to double-bag it to keep the feathers from coming out.
Oh wait, we're talking about Japanese music. Sorry, not familiar with their work unless they've done an anime OP/ED.

Have you ever seen flcl (AKA Fooly Cooly) on adult swim, literally every song used from background music to the credits was one of theirs.MrPopo wrote:My pillow has been with me for as long as I can remember. I have to double-bag it to keep the feathers from coming out.

Re: You know you love The Pillows.
I've only heard Last Dinosaur and Advice, but according to your description of their ability to alternatingly soothe and decimate, those should be a testament to that. I really don't know how I came accross that band, as I'm not much of an anime person (not because I don't like it, persay, but I simply don't have enough time for television). Anyway, my favorite Japanese band is Razors Edge (shitty name, I know, but their lead singer had a side project called the Jellyroll Rockheads, so that more than makes up for it). Japanese hardcore which channels every facet of popular punk stylings; their recent stuff is a tad too poppy for me, but they're generally great... kinda like pop punk vocals with thrash instrumentals. And they're absolutely among the most talented hardcore bands I've ever heard... I think they only sing about partying and shit like that, though, which I find pretty dissappointing.

Re: You know you love The Pillows.
I really need to keep up with their new work, now if only their import CD's were cheaper. I'd just download them but I like to support the bands I truly enjoy.

Im more of a Yoko Kanno fan myself. The Pillows have excellent music but the vast lot of it doesnt really click with me.
