Gameboy Micro Shell Replacement

Post by andymol21 »

Well, my new Gameboy Micro came in the mail today. It was a "discounted" model from a website I use that came without any description. It was £12 so I decided to take a gamble. When I opened the box today my fears were true, its the hot pink version and looks, well, PINK. I'm now playing on it and it is absolutely fantastic, but the pink keeps distracting my eyes. Can anyone think of a reliable way of changing the colour of it with minimum fuss?

I don't really care about the quality, as it will be my traveling partner so will be scuffed to high hell anyway, I just don't want to have to take it out on a train only to be laughed at!

Wasn't one of the main selling features of the Micro the fact that it has swappable faceplates? So just buy some faceplates for it. Or are you saying the actual underlying shell is all pink? Never come across one like that before.

Yes, the whole shell is painted metallic pink. It was only available in PAL regions I believe...

Changing the face plate would just make it look stupid I think. At the moment I'm leaning towards the most opaque silicon case possible, just completely cover the pink. But surprisingly enough most cases are see through to allow the actual colour of the Micro to shine through!

My next thought is a permanent marker and a steady hand, but that could go so wrong so quickly!

i personally think that looks kick ass. If you do want to actually change the entire shell you should be forwarned that the front shell is kind of a bitch to take the pcb off of without fucking one the ribbon cables up so be careful.

Thats exactly my plan.

My girlfriend hated games, but played "Farm Town" religiously on Facebook (don't know if you know it, its a crude farm sim) I told her that that was what playing games was like, and handed her my new pink micro with Super Mario Bros loaded up on a flashcart. She has since asked me to play it 3 times now (only showed her it yesterday) I just bought a beat up green Micro off eBay, so I plan to give her the pink one as part of her Anniversary gift at the end of the month.

A little side note. First time she was playing SMB, she got to the end of level two and jumped over the pipe to the warp zone. Sort of took me by surprise that someone who has never played a game before managed to end up in a secret location... Beginners luck I guess.
