just completed eliminate down

Post by johnnydoyle123 »

i have just completed eliminate down on the megadrive and all i can say is

my head hurts
i am dehydrated
is there a god
and my thumbs are now stubs

christ what a thrill rush the game was bordering on the ludicrous .... hard mode is not nice :(
and the last boss wtf looked like garfield on crack

but still was worth the bash ....... :) it,s better than i imagined .. i am now a member of its cult following

anyone else played it and is still recovering from post traumatic stress ?

regards john

I remember playing it on my pc via emulation and I may have had a repro on genesis but can't remember now. I sucked at it but I know the feelings your talking about having experienced them with other shmups and games like them. Perhaps I need to pick this up again.

How about I explain things, from one guy who doesn't play SHMUPS like a religion to another. I'll be using terminology borrowed from Backloggery.com

If you beat it, great. You beat it. Congratulations. Mark the game off.

But you didn't complete it yet.

Sure, you beat the final boss. You saw the ending to the game. You may have even earned yourself a name amongst the high scores. But you have not completed the challenge of the game because you did not beat it without continuing, which is what the religious SHMUP player strives for. One perfect game. That's why you're getting hounded. But, since you've beaten it, it shows a step in the right direction. Next will come the memorization of the levels, so you can beat it again, but faster. Start playing through it again. See how far you can get without dying. Keep track of the distance you cover and the progress you make in the game. Eventually you will attain that one perfect run of the game, and then you've truly completed the challenge.

Does that help?

I think he tuned out because some of us are not up to his standard of perfection. Frankly, I'm happy if I can beat the last boss. I have little desire to memorize and 1cc.
