My PS2 collection

Post by Niode »

I've been collecting games for PS2 ever since it came out and have amassed quite a collection. However I have the feeling I'm missing some key items. I'm only interested in games that were perceived as good titles (IE higher than 80 on metacritic for example, or just games that are particularly noteworthy for the platform for one reason or another).

Here's my collection so far:

Bust-A-Move 2
Buzz Mega Quiz

Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4

Soul Calibur 2
Soul Reaver 2
SSX
SSX Tricky
SSX3
Stuntman
Tekken 4
Time Crisis 2
Timesplitters 2
Timesplitters Future Perfect
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Tony Hawk's Underground
Unlimited Saga
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
Vampire Night
Viewtiful Joe 2
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution
Yakuza
Zone of the Enders

I'm currently waiting for Grimgrimoire, Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3:FES, Vice City and Ridge Racer V to come in the post. I'm currently shopping for Suikoden III, ZOE2 (hideously expensive so this may take some time to get) and We Love Katamari.

Also I'm only interested in PAL releases.

What do you guys think to my collection so far?

I think it's impressive. You've got about 20 more titles than I do, and some of them are stuff I really want.

Here's a few that meet your criteria that weren't on your list:

Dark Cloud
Fatal Frame
Gungrave
Mark of Kri
Mortal Kombat: Deception
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Red Faction
Silent Hill 3
Soul Calibur 2
Viewtiful Joe
Yakuza 2

As I think of more, I'll add them.

Thanks Ack. I've got Soul Calibur 2, I forgot to mention it when I was compiling a list of all my games, it's currently in my PS2 right now, that's why I forgot to include it!

Is SCIII worth getting?

I've already got the other two Prince of Persia games on Xbox and I've got Viewtiful Joe on GC.

I had no idea Yakuza 2 had come out! It's on my shopping list.

I forgot to mention that Klonoa 2 is on my shopping list as well right now.

Personally, I'd vote no to Soul Calibur III. Beyond balancing issues, it just didn't feel fun. Also, there's a game-breaking bug that I can confirm in the US market's release, though I don't know about the PAL version: it corrupts memory cards. I would just avoid it.

Also, I could recommend a few games I enjoy, but they fall just under the metacritic score you were looking for. Things like Way of the Samurai, which I greatly enjoyed, though they do have their problems.

Oh don't worry about the metacritic score, it's not totally important, if a game is worth playing it's worth playing, I own plenty of games under 80 metacritic that are worth it. I was just trying to make sure I didn't miss any games that may be highly rated that aren't on the metacritic system for any particular reason.

On a further note, does anybody know what the difference is between the PS2 version of MGS2 Substance and the Xbox version, because I already have the xbox version, I wonder if it's worth getting the PS2 version. It appears to have an extra disc. What is it?

I have the original NTSC version of Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance and the one that came bundled with the essentials collection and there is only one disc that I am aware of. I hope my copy is not incomplete... Also, the first Viewtiful Joe should definitely be on there. I felt it was much better than the second one. The tag ability between the two characters felt kind of thrown in and the bonus content just wasn't there after the game was completed. The music video from the first game was one of the most entertaining things to be rewarded with after completing a game. If you like music games I'd suggest Amplitude or Frequency. I recently got Amplitude and it's extremely addictive. I think Jak 3 and the Ratchet and Clank games should be in there too. Just started the second one and so far it's been a lot of fun to play.

I am talking about the PAL version, there is a chance that the versions are different.

I'm pretty sure that we (Europe) got an extra disc full of goodies to make up for how long Substance took to arrive over here.
