You mean where they believe they know the actual value of the game, and ask for it?

Yeah, I've come across that a few times, especially with certain SNES games. I've seen people put WORDTRIS behind the counter and charge $20 for it.

The pawn shop by my house always has really fair prices but a meager selection. Then again they still price their gamecubes at $69.99.

One of the problems with pawn shops can also be one of the benefits - they just have no clue what a game is worth.

I've been with a friend of mine who picked up BOFIV for $5 because the store manager priced games by the year they came out. On the other hand, the closest pawn shop to me has a very weathered, very used copy of Mega Man 2 for $25.

I've also noticed a large number of shops that charge too much for Mario Bros 3. But, on the other hand... I got MGS3:Subsistence Limited Edition for $10 at a pawn shop. So I think it more than balances out.

most of my pawn shop games that are not in the case are $2 each. even in the case its not that bad, you can get things like smb3, mario kart 64, super smash bros, mario 64, etc for like 5-8$.

a few weeks back they got a ton of snes games and i managed to pick up Secret of Mana for $2.

At a pawnshop near my church they still have original Xboxs for $200, 360s are $400. It is in a poorer area of town so people do end up paying those prices, but it sickens me when I look at it.

The sad thing about the Mario/Duckhunt cart is that people pay that much for it no problem. At one of the Play and Trades I frequent I called the manager out on it. He said at $5 they were gone the day of so that he upped it to $15 and they still rarely stay more than a couple days.

Yeah, but some times you are forced to pay too much for something just because no others are available to you. eBay is the only real place I can buy older games for NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. I hate when I search for an ordinary game (can't think of an example right now) and all I get back is BIN's with horribly high prices. Every single one of them will have "rare - hard to find!!!" in the title. Yeah, it's so rare there's only.... 20 of them on eBay?

I did some site work for a guy who sells retro stuff and you wouldn't believe how some of the stuff is priced. No one buys from the online store at all. At his physical shop, you always hear people say something about his prices and they usually work out. Then someone comes in and drops 400 bucks on games, its insane. I guess you want it bad enough you'll buy it.
