goldeneye n64 question

Post by aaron »

was this, in fact, the FIRST instance of a 4-player deathmatch style game on a home console? i don't think it was but i can't think of another one off the top of my head. it's surely the most popular as far as the early ones go.

Bomberman. 'nuff said.

*EDIT* Actually, I think Warlords on 2600 takes this one. My cart says "1981".

Are you crazy? The 2600 had 4-player games, as the previous poster said, and the NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1, Gameboy, Game Gear, Lynx, and many more consoles had support for 4 or more players. There were HUNDREDS of 4-player games before Goldeneye!

First game with 4 player support was Elimination, otherwise known as Quadrapong. But that's not a home console.

But he said deathmatch, so I believe he's implying first person shooters. Hexen on the Nintendo 64 predates Goldeneye 007 by several months, and Duke Nukem 64 was only two months behind it. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was released a year later. Doom 64 and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter didn't feature multiplayer, as far as I can remember.
