Universal System Selector
I'm curious if anyone has had some success with these units. What I'm looking to do is run my old systems like NES, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast, ect through a S-Video unit. Can I use these units with systems that have either AV or RF and will these units upscale them to S-Video?
Example:
GameStop Universal System Selector

Re: Universal System Selector
that thing is simply a switch box, it does not convert any signals.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Re: Universal System Selector
What he said, its only going to produce what ever signal is put into it. Example: Plugging in a NES with composite cable to switch box, then the only way to see the screen is by plugging in the composite out in the box into the tv...no upscale.skate323k137 wrote:that thing is simply a switch box, it does not convert any signals.

Re: Universal System Selector
Thank ... any box or mod out there that can do it?
And to recap if I'm running AV and the box has S-Video will there be a differance in the quality of picture?

Re: Universal System Selector
Dude... you can only get S-Video out of S-Video. If the signal is composite and you are converting to S-video, you aren't really doing anything. There is no "upscaling" to s-video that I know of.
That is just a switch box. It has multiple s-vid and composite inputs to hook multiple systems up to one s-vid or composite input on your TV. Its no miracle machine like what you are asking about.

Re: Universal System Selector
You could buy one of these...it will convert the signal but not upscale it. They claim it does...but I dunno..

Re: Universal System Selector
Nice suggestion but I just went ahead and bought S-Video for both my Saturn and Dreamcast instead. Got them for the same price as that adaptor anyways. I was just looking for another option then going with two seperate S-Video into my TV. But I'll use these and that switch box.
Thanx everybody ...

Re: Universal System Selector
Shadoop shadoop shadoop...
I will explain something.
RF, Composite (RCA), and S-video all use the same exact colour space and specs. The only difference is what wires they are carried on.
You can convert from RCA to S-vid and back very easily, no power is even needed to perform the job. You can get little converters the size of a pen cap.
RF to RCA does require power though, but is still such a simple task that most of these switch boxes do it.
To check, IF the switch box supports RF/RCA/Svid AND has a power cable then it will most likely (unless for some reason they are retarded) support outputting any input as and of the given output types. Good thing to look for is the descriptions (Built in RF modulator).
Converting between these three types is NOT a process of upscaling. It's a simple redistribution of the wiring.
