Moviebob's ideas for saving Sonic

Post by Mozgus »

Seems like everyone has been chiming in with methods to bring Sonic back to his former luster. Racketboy, Jim Sterling of Destructoid, and IGN to name a few. So here's Moviebob's analysis of the situation and strategies to fix things:

Some good stuff in there.

i recently played a bit of sonic and the black knight. I didn't think it was very good, but it wasn't as bad as what i thought i was going to play. A lot of the hate is piled on sonic because at some point i think he just became a whipping boy for video game enthusiasts. Not that some of the games deserve it, but i don't think they deserve the extent of it. I've certainly played worse games than sonic and the black knight.

while i was playing that- I couldn't help but think about how to reboot sonic. Once i started thinking about it and the game that i would make, i kinda got on a roll. Thought about writing it down, but.... then i realized.... this is fan fiction.

still- came to a lot of the same conclusions this guy did. Not so much about his personality because i didn't even know it changed through the games. (i haven't played a sonic since genesis) Sonic does need a stronger story for sure. The whole opening scene from sonic and the black knight was really sad. Sonic gets literally dropped into this world and just starts punching his way through it. He doesn't' even know who the bad guys are! HE IS IN A WHOLE SEPARATE WORLD! I was really hoping that there would be a twist at the end where he was working for the wrong side. sadly... no.

OH! and for the record- i liked tomb raider anniversary. Legend, i could take it or leave it. Miss croft needs a reboot too.

Great video. I really liked the part about nuking the secondary cast.

Man, I used to really look forward to each installment of the Game OverThinker. But lately something about him has started bugging me. I think it's got something to do with the tone of his voice, and whatever it is, it irks the shit out of me.

He does make some good points here, though. The 2 videos are almost as good as the earlier episodes of the OverThinker.

The Sonic topic works for moviebob because he's finally got something to say that matters. My main complaint about the recent episodes are that he's not as poignant as he once was. There was some fantastic stuff in his early videos about things like sexism and race in video games, and it wasn't quite as arrogantly pretentious-sounding as he is these days. (If you haven't watched the first 7 or 8 episodes, you should find it on youtube and watch them RIGHT NOW.)

Seriously, the "Video Games Come From Japan" bit was funny for a few times, but come on...

I pretty much agree with most of this.

I think he hit the nail right on the head. I was done with Sonic after the Dreamcast release. I also agree with the secondary cast bit. Why the hell are there so many people who happen to look just like sonic? Even the goddamn birds look like him. This is madness.

P.S. It seems like this is the only character design they know of.
