Mario Kart Series

Post by slowslow325 »

I'm sure I'm not the first to post this, but I may be wrong:

The Mario Kart games in order are:
Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart Super Circuit
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart for Wii

What I think is stupid is that Super Mario Kart sounds like a sequel to "Mario Kart". Mario Kart for Wii sounds like the first. Mario Kart Double Dash sounds like the second one. Mario Kart 64 sounds like the 64th one. Mario Kart DS and Super Circuit just go anywhere. Why would they not call Super Mario Kart just Mario Kart.

And why must they name Mario Kart for Wii so unimaginitavely. It's like they just go with the generic names for consoles that have them (DS, 64, Super) and the ones that don't (GBA, GCN) they think of something. However, with the Wii they just pick the worst name possible.

They name almost all of the games for the snes with the 'super' prefix and yeah it does sound stupid. I also agree that they mst have been in rush to get home when they dreamt up the name for mario kart wii. super lame

nintendo loved the "Super_____" and "______64" names at the time. Its only natural to just add Wii to the end of the game title. I think Gamecube was too long of a name or if shortened adding cube to the end of every game would have been too odd for that to happen during that era. I would have loved to play Mariocube or Zeldacube though

i have to say your theory has one loophole, they could've called it mario kart advance for gba, but they didn't. thus proving that nintendo has no pattern in their game's titles.

Hmm--interesting observations here.

To shift gears a bit, what is everyone's favorite MK game? Due to my love of co-op I'm probably one of the few that really loved Double Dash. I wonder if the co-op design will ever make it back into the series.

Double Dash was a lot of fun, but the karts never had very good traction. This was especially noticable when I picked up MKDS and ran karts like the Dry Bomber, which handles much more like the ones in SMK. For me, it's a tie between MKDS. They both have the advantage of bringing in a lot of classic tracks, and they both have kart physics that I really like. Well, technically for MKW it's the bikes that handle the way I like them.

No, because not many other games were called "_____ advance" Many games were called 64 or super

haha i dont know.. didn't they have super mario bros advance? you never know what they are thinking, but I will say they really aren't to creative when it comes to game names for sequels.

I grew up on Super Mario Kart, then the next one I played is Double Dash, then Mario Kart 64, followed by Mario Kart Wii... Personally, I like Double Dash and Wii the best... Mario Kart 64 is my least favorite by far. I dont know what I dont like about it, but I really dont enjoy playing it like the others
