DEATHBOTS (nes)

Post by arion »

Sometimes games can be good but a bit flawed. Somtimes even if they look bad they can be good. But sometimes they make you think "what the hell were they thinking". Thats the first thing i thought of the moment i started DEATHBOTS.

Now what it seems to be all about is this..Robots are going berserk and err looking scary at it too. Thats it and it´s up to you guy of sorts armed with some guns and grenades to stop the DEATHBOTS.

Well there isn´t anything bad about a simple storyline in a action game. But what is bad and unacceptable is wandering around shooting lots of identical DEATHBOTS with some very crappy looking guns. It gets so bad at times at times i can´t see if i am actually shooting. And forget about avoid getting shot at since the same problem also affects the DEATHBOTS. To give some small credit to the developers the bots have more than one dimension you if they move up and down they look wide if they go left and right they look thin. Unfortunetly they look bad all the time and when they look thin they don´t really look like well anything. So graphically it´s a mess but that isn´t all there are also some doors littered around the place but for some reason they won´t open and it may take a while just to get them to open up i swear i thought they were supposed to be locked the first time. Add to that the DEATHBOTS like to gang up around the doors so when you finally get one open there are lots of them waiting to fire invinsible shots at you wich you return with more invinsible shots and some grenades only capable of affecting one enemy at time. Weakest grenades EVER.

Well enough ranting it does have one small not so bad feature you can equip guns to either A or B. So you can set a handgun to a and grenades to b. And change guns when you run out of ammo. But that does not work that well either (but the idea isn´t bad) as you gather guns around the place your inventory fills up with guns of the same type with either full ammo or just a little bit of ammo not worth equping of course if they had figured out to leave ammo around instead of just more guns this wouldn be such a mess.

And for some reason if you are out of ammo you can still fight the DEATHBOTS but i can only guess the guy is punching or kicking since there is absoulutly NO ANIMATION.

DEATHBOTS is mistake of a game..i can´t think of a reason why it got released anywhere but it did..so again "What the hell were they thinking"

I recently found out that this game is also available for the Amiga. And this review works for that version too aside from looking slightly less crappy.

lol, just found a gameplay video of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pgH9_Lsw0E

Deathbots looks slightly better (but just as annoying and horrible) as the X-Men game that was on nes.
