Hey guys, I just got six free Game Gear games from a friend of mine and it's sort of made me interested in attempting to find one. I had always wanted a Game Gear when I was a kid but I never got one, I still had a passive interest in the thing but as I got older and researched more I came upon the conclusion that the GG doesn't really have a great library of games, at least in my opinion. It just seems slightly above average at best. It seems unfair to judge it that way to me though simply because there aren't enough reviews for any of the GG stuff to make a fair judgment about it.
Point is, if you can make any recommendations for good Game Gear games please let me know what they are. Thanks in advance.

Both Shinobi games on the GG are good as well as Ninja Gaiden.
I also enjoyed the Jurassic Park games.

Streets of Rage, Chuck Rock and Lemmings are all decent ports

Well, to be fair, the GG library is chock full of crap games, it got much more than it's share of shovelware. There are not a lot of games entirely unique to the GG as many are tied to their Genesis counterparts though often not the same game rehashed just a similar game of the same name. A good portion of the Master System library was rehashed on the Game Gear and as stated above MS games can be played directly on the GG with the proper adaptor.
That said, there ARE some pretty good games for GG. The Ecco games and Desert Strike are pretty good renditions of theses games. The early life of the GG also had some pretty darn good RPGs. One of the few later action RPGs, Tails Adventure, is considered one of the best GG games. Sonic 1 and 2 are pretty good, but the fast moving action can bring out the slow moving screen's smearing effects. Krusty's Funhouse is a good port of the same game made for home consoles. Tom & Jerry the Movie has some of the best graphics ever on the GG though the game is so simple you can beat it inside and hour and a half.
If you want to play fast moving games like Sonic, look for one of the later model GG units made by Majesco. They can be identified by white graphics on the screen cover instead of the more typical red/green/blue graphics on the Sega units. The Majesco versions have a somewhat improved screen.

Thanks for the info, I actually do have a Streets of Rage 2 Port it was one of the free ones I got.
I was actually really interested in the Sonic titles for GG, they were sort of the only drawing point for me.

They are direct ports of the Master System games so if you have the MS games and are seeking something new, the Game Gear versions won't take you there!Zork wrote:Thanks for the info, I actually do have a Streets of Rage 2 Port it was one of the free ones I got.

All I remember about the Game Gear was batteries and how well it ate them.
