VGA to s-video cable?
VGA to s-video cable?
Does anyone here use a VGA to s-video or VGA to component (composite and HD are out of the question unfortunately) to play MAME on their TV? I was thinking of buying one of these but I dont know how well it would work and dont want to waste my money. I was thinking something like this

Ive used scan converters in the past with mixed results - you usually get what you pay for. For $40 it is probably a POS. The average price is $100. The two companies I liked, Videoscan and GoldTV, sadly no longer make them.
But let me ask how you bought a tv that has svideo and component but no composite? I mean not even for a side input? I find that odd in that my parents just bought an good lcd tv and sure enough its got composite on the side (right under hdmi 4)

I have a Averkey Micro and its a great unit. It cost me a $100.00 3 years ago and haven't used it in 2 years. I just dedicate a old PC now for emulator play and hook it up to my LCD. If you want it, I'll sell it for $30.00 including shipping. Has a great picture and is much better than playing on a small monitor it has s-video, composite and VGA output.

luckily my laptop outputs s-video, and I use that for mame with very good results. I actually prefer it over VGA for the low-res games.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Use svideo then - fn-f8 is the key combination for most non toshiba's. Granted you may still have to play around in display properties before it will actually work.
Re: VGA to s-video cable?
You might just want to pick up a cheap graphics card with S-video out for your PC if you have something that can accommodate it (i.e. not a slim PC or something like that).
Re: VGA to s-video cable?
If you've got an HD TV then you likely have the first HDMI port labeled as DVI/HDMI 1 (and possibly a VGA port as well). In that case you can just take a standard DVI->HDMI cable and plug it in, as well as routing your sound card to the TV in as well (some TVs take the 3.5 mm jack, others require 2x RCA, both of which can easily be adapted to with stuff from Monoprice). It's only older TVs that require things like an S-Video port on your video card.ThunderPrince wrote:whoa whoa whoa....I can hook up my computer to my huge HDTV?! I gotta get another arcade stick!
