A decision to make

Post by carslayer »

Hi, i just need some advice. recently someone offered to trade their original Genesis with a bunch of games, like mortal kombat and sonic the hedgehog, for my original SNES with two power supplies. while i already have a perfect condition SNES Mini which i use all the time, i don't want to trade it because it is the first system i'd ever owned. I guess it has sentimental value. So i'm just asking if this is a good deal or not, i guess I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to part with any of my stuff and i regret it when i do, but this deal may be too good to pass up as the genesis hes its own box and a few games. what should i do? Is this trade a good idea? i just want to hear everyone else's opinion.

If your SNES means that much to you, keep it. It's a great system with a legendary amount of classics I'm sure you've yet to discover. The Genesis is also a great system, but it's not one that you can't pick up at a thrift store for five dollars, with those two games you mentioned; they are absurdly common. Also, the "SNES 2", or the mini variety you have, is a more desired unit than any of the Genesis models, save for the portable Nomad. Just spring a few dollars to own a Genesis as well. If I'm to understand that you have two SNES's, keep them both for completeness. :)

I'd wager most people here will tell you to emulate, but the Genesis is simply too cheap and too great a system to not own and experience authentically. But really, keep that SNES.

Its not an outstanding deal, so I probably wouldn't do it if you are attached to the SNES.
The only thing that makes the deal remotely good is the box. Is it the full box for the console? That at lease would increase the value, but IIRC, an SNES is usually worth a bit more than a Genesis.

Even with the box, I would probably not go for the deal if I was in your shoes.
