books about gaming?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Supercade by Van Burnham
The Ultimate History of Video Games by Steve L. Kent
Game Over by David Sheff

That's a good place to start.

High Score: A Illustrated History of Video Games, is also pretty awesome.

I highly recomend The Ultimate History of Video Games as well, its well written and it covers loads of stuff.

Good to see I'm not the only person who read Kent's book.

Several times over, in fact.

ultimate history of video games is great. However I believe the first and I've heard the greatest history book on games is Phoenix by rolenta press (new edition soon) also loved Ralph Baer's book on creating the odyssey (also by rolenta press)

Here's another vote for High Score!

It has a nice overview of the industry from the beginning to recent past. They left out a few developers such as Square, but usually only because those companies requested to be excluded from the book. Great general history and lots of great photos.

I really enjoyed Dungeon's and Desktops (http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Desktops-History-Computer-Role-playing/dp/1568814119)

It's cRPG specific, but quite complete and interesting. There were a lot of great RPGs released on 8-bit computers. If you like RPGs at all, check this book out for a good idea of what you'll want to play.
