That was pretty cool, and I don't often play SHMUPS. What was the first footage it showed gameplay of, where the plane takes off at the beginning? It looked like fun, was wondering on the title.

Good question. The opening cut-scenes looked vaguely familiar, especially the part with silhouettes running down the stylized hallway. Maybe a PC Engine CD game? The first game I recognized was Lords of Thunder, right after that biplane game.

I'm not sure what the first scene is from, looked like a pc engine game. The part with the biplane taking off is from Progear.
Re: HG101 Presents - Ode to Shmups
The very first game shown, the cut scenes, before the biplane takes off (different game), is Pulstar on the Neo Geo.
And the whole double-timing the play speed? Stupid. Slow it down. Let us actually take a look at what's going on.

If your talking about the two dudes running down the red lit hallway, I think it was Wing Commander for the SNES. I could be wrong though. The biplane one was Progear and it rules and easily emulated on MAME.

Pretty good video, shame it's mostly focused on Horizontal shmups and there's only one Cave game (Progear)

Nah, I tried it at first going single speed, and it didn't fit the tempo of the song. The point is the fast paced action, not necessary seeing what's going on.marurun wrote:And the whole double-timing the play speed? Stupid. Slow it down. Let us actually take a look at what's going on.
The games in the intro are MUSHA, Wing Commander (not technically a shmup, but looks awesome), Pulstar, and Sol Feace, then the takeoff from Progear.
I couldn't use any vertically oriented shmups due to some issues with resolution and me being pretty new to video editing. I also restricted it to emulator capped stuff for video quality purposes. I already think it looks a bit disorienting with SNES/NES 256x224 next to XEXEX or R-Type 384x256, the vertical stuff would've mucked that up even further. I do regret not being able to use more Cave stuff, it'd be perfect for this.
Besides, I like hori shooters better anyway.

What's the super cartoony one that starts at :55, and also the end one with "Hexa Forced Phoenix" in the corner?Mozgus wrote:
