X - Arcade Joystick
Re: X - Arcade Joystick
I have the Tankstick and I think its ok. A lot of people hate these for fighters though, which I'm not too into. I believe Hori is the best for those or the expensive (but custom) Mas Sticks. See below:

I mostly use the X-Arcade for MAME on the Xbox. I have one controller set up for 4-direction control games, such as Ms. Pac-Man, while the other is set for 8-direction.
The roller works well too for games like Missle Command. I have to play that on the PS2 though since the Xbox MAME doesn't accept optical input sadly.
Good luck

I don't have the stick, but I have the trackball, and it's worth every penny. Very high quality construction, and real arcade parts. I'd be surprised if the joystick weren't excellent too. The only problem I've heard with them is that the dual joysticks are a bit close together for comfort.
There aren't that many great games that use the trackball, but the ones that do are a *lot* of fun with this thing. Missile Command, Marble Madness, Centipede, all great.
PhilExile, have you tried using the trackball with Super Monkey Ball? If that works, I'm getting an xbox adapter for sure.

Re: X - Arcade Joystick
I have owned the 2 player (not the tankstick) model for about 5 years now. It is built very well. The sticks are a little close together so you need to be very comfortable with the person you are playing with. It doesn't bother me as I play with my Wife and Kids mostly.
It doesn't have true arcade parts. They are actually made by X Gaming and are replicas of the Happ parts found in the majority of USA arcade cabinets. They do not have the Cherry brand micro switches and the buttons do feel a little looser than the Happ ones. The sticks feel about the same to me.
That said, they do a pretty damn good job and they are pretty durable. I hear a lot of complaints about the controller adapter lag and unresponsiveness of the sticks when trying to hit diagonals. I have experienced the diagonals issue and I don't think it will be as much of a problem if you aren't a fan of fighting games. I can't say that I have experienced any lag yet (at least as far as I can tell).
They do offer a "lifetime replacement" warranty on the units, but what they don't tell you is that you have to pay for the shipping both ways. When my Son recently dropped something heavy on the Player 2 stick and broke it, (I guess a fair assumption would be that any stick would have broke under the same circumstances so I don't blame the build quality) I found that it was going to cost me around $50 or so for shipping the unit both ways so I decided to just eventually replace all of the parts with Happ parts. That should cost me around the same amount and it will be an upgrade to boot! You can get them here; http://www.lizardlick.com/
Note that the Happ buttons are a little bit longer than the X gaming buttons so the bottom row of 2 buttons, you would need to either plug the holes, change out just the switches in the buttons with the cherry switches, or buy more (better) knockoffs. I plan to just swap the switches and deal with the same 2 buttons (which I don't think are that bad to begin with).

Re: X - Arcade Joystick
I own the X-Arcade Dual Tankstick (Two player w/ Trackball in middle), and I love it. It's a bitch to set up, but aside from that it is the perfect way to play arcade style games. I personally play a lot of fighting games, and I loved using the X-Arcade much more than any other controller I have. Never experienced a lag, although the diagonals did take some getting used to. In it's defense, the diagonals took some getting used to in a real arcade too, after playing with console controllers for ages.
Don't use the trackball much, but for games like Golden Tee, it's epic. Also, if you value having to two joysticks further away from each other (so you don't elbow your competition), the trackball gives you some extra space.

I was seriously considering the dual stick version before I started reading some articles. The quality is good and the materials are pretty sturdy. Fry's carries the dual stick version and I was able to test one out. However, as stated above, they are not made from true arcade parts (Happ, Sanwa or Seimitsu). At first the entry price seems cheap and you can swap out the parts for Happ products fairly easily. By the time you swap everything out (or at least the buttons and sticks you use most), the price doesn't seem so right. The price of an adapter for a console of your choice is usually not included in the price. Plan on paying an extra $20 per adapter.
Even if you are only playing shmups, the diagonals issue may be a problem.
Another option is buying an X-Arcade 2nd hand. I see them on Craig's pretty regularly in my city for much less than the cost of a new one. You might make out pretty well by buying a used one at a low price and then switching out the parts for Happ.

I don't own of these, but I did play on one before in a store and it's pretty good except the joystick is far away from the buttons. The quality is good I could perform moves easily while playing MvsC2.If I bought this I would put in Happ buttons & a Sanwa joystick,I want real arcade parts for something I spend a lot of time playing on.

Re: X - Arcade Joystick
I have the 2 player one. its ok. to the average person it is a solid controller. but to someone with a taste for the more refined things (me) it could use some serious improvement.
its very solid and durable, but it uses clone parts. sometime soon I will buy some sanwa parts and give it a new coat of paint and make it something beautiful. I love my Dreamcast Agetec stick, the joystick is shorter and very sensitive and I just have to feather my fingers over the buttons.
After using the X-Arcade stick my arms feel tired, it's hard to push buttons quickly and the joystick just doesn't feel "right" to me.
I would say that unless you get a japanese made stick expect the parts to be less than perfect. I have a Pelican "Tournament Ready" stick, by tournament ready I think they meant "parts break after a few months....ready". gotta get parts for that one too.

From the research I have done, the only parts that are a straight swap are Happ sticks/buttons and even those buttons don't fit the bottom row due the the shallowness of the chassis. I think that you might have to re-crimp some wires and re-drill out the holes to fit Sanwa/Semeitsu (sp?) parts.
