anyone here move from a small(ish) city to a major city?
anyone here move from a small(ish) city to a major city?
and how do you feel about your old place after being in your new place?
Me being from topeka, ks i can really appreciate where i live now (southern california.) A big diff from where in topeka the biggest thing happening was say the latest hit song on the radio or a new movie. Over here something is always happening and always something to do.
Any one else?

I hate cities, i prefer the slow and laidback life in the country.

It's sad how that's not only true, but also, I can't even imagine anything bigger happening. What...actually....happens on real cities?holaback wrote:A big diff from where in topeka the biggest thing happening was say the latest hit song on the radio or a new movie.

sex and debauchery... sex and debauchery.
...
nah I'm from a small town. I move from an all white town in New England to South Florida. The town I moved to in Florida was about 20 times smaller in size, but my graduating class was 20 times larger. There were more kids in my high school that dropped out then there were kids in the all of the schools of my home town. It was weird.
Culture shock and a half!
How do I feel about where I'm from though? I don't know... New England feels very nostalgic to me now, I look back on it with romanticism... like everything could be better there if I were to return. But I know that isn't true. It just has that feel to it when I think about it. When I compare the weird stuff that happens here to there, it's like, wooooh... that wouldn't happen there. But in the same respect, stuff happens there that would never happen here.
Don't know... I miss it, but really Florida has grown to be my home.

I moved from Fairbanks Alaska to Portland Oregon...Fairbanks was a frozen wasteland. Moving down here was probably the best decision I ever made. Plus the amazing games I have got off craigslist really make me wonder why I waited so long.

I moved from one of the Chicago suburbs to downtown Seattle, and it was different. The biggest change for me is the fact that I do very little driving, while in suburbia you drive everywhere.

A few weeks ago I got back from living in Shanghai (China) for half a year. In Australia I live far from the metropolitan area of arguably the quietest city in the country. Shanghai's population is roughly the same as the total population of Australia, that is in the one city.
Coming home I definetly feel that it is very quiet around here. It's pretty boring actually, there's not really much going on in entertainment and getting there is a real hassle since everything is so damn spread out. I don't know how I ever put up with this before.

i live in a town called pratt. When i was 20, we moved out of what was my home for those 20 years, out of a little town called iuka. The population in iuka was and still is less than 100 people. from there, i moved to wichita to go to college. (all in kansas if you couldn't guess). Once i moved, i couldn't believe how much i missed iuka. I mean you had absolutley no crime in iuka, Hell, there was only one sheriff that would drive through town once an evening. In wichita, you where lucky if your house or your car didn't get broken into (both my appartment and car got broken into, and several items stolen, including a laptop, ps2, xbox, two 12" subwoofers and a 250 watt amp). needless to say, after that happened, i moved back to iuka, and i had an all new respect for the laid back folks in the smaller towns. the only thing i dislike about the small towns is the lack of activities. Wichita was way funner, but had a price. i would rather live in a small town and have nothing to do, than have unlimited options as to what to do, and have to live with that amount of crime every day.

I'm from Dallas and moved with my wife to Toronto. We lived in a suburb of Dallas and now live in the heart of Toronto. Dallas isn't a very active city in terms of a downtown life so I suppose it's quite different here.
I'm by no means a "people person" but every once in a while it is fun to walk around and just get the "city vibe." Toronto has the added advantage of being quite a diverse city, so it's refreshing to see a great mixture of cultures and ethnicities--something I didn't get much in the suburbs of Dallas.
