What kind of plastic were Dreamcast games wrapped in?

I know it's kind of a weird question but I usually try to buy my DC games either sealed or like new. The reason I ask is because I recently bought a sealed copy of Jet Set Radio. The plastic it was sealed in was different than how I remember DC games being sealed back in the day. Back when DC was still alive, I remember DC games being packaged in the kind of wrap regular music cds are packaged in. That is, the plastic is neatly folded around the corners. The copy of JSR I got was sealed differently. I don't really know how to describe it but it was not as neat looking. It was as if it was one piece of plastic wrapped around the case and then sealed. The type of plastic was different too.

I was just wondering if it was possible to reseal games or if some games were packaged differently. The game itself was new so I have no problem. I'm just curious as to this.

music cd wrap from what i can remember. that's what i see on my sealed ikaruga.

Depends on the who you bought it from. According to GameStop you can unwrap a game, play the disc, reshrink wrap it and sell it as new. That practice should be illegal.

They came in that cellophane stuff like cds have. If yur game is n something like shrinkwrap your probably getting scammed.

Depending on what region the games come from they are sealed differently.

Japanese games are pretty much always neatly sealed with the folded corners on the top and bottom edges, plus a tear strip near the bottom.

US games tend to be neatly sealed as well but their folded edges are actually on the side of the case, not the top/bottom - can't remember if this applies to both sides or just one.

PAL games should be neatly sealed and have a tear strip as well.

I think some US games also come in a standard shrinkwrap with an extra game manual on the back of the actual game case. No idea if this means they have been resealed though or whether they were actually sent out of the factory like this. In fact my US Jet Grind Radio was like this when I bought it years ago, it had a manual inside the case, but it also had an extra one loose on the outside with shrinkwrap around it.

I remember getting both kinds back in the day. Due to the dubious practice of gutting the cases and keeping the discs and manual behind the counter/in the back that most game stores employed most of them were in empty cases with the shrink-wrap removed.

Every now and then you would get one that was sealed. My copy of Shenmue was sealed in shrink-wrap as was Shenmue 2, but I think that was mainly due to size of the boxes. My copy of Crazy Taxi was sealed like DVDs with the seal round the middle so was Sonic Adventure. So I dunno really, most of my games were bought brand new without seals (which is one of the things I really hate about this country and the practice that games stores have employed for over 15 years now. I tend to buy all my games online now because they're generally still sealed).

Wow, I didn't know that. How is it still new? I mean, you opened it and played it.

That's actually why I asked in the first place. That's how my copy of JSR was wrapped. I thought it was resealed because I had never remembered DC games being wrapped like that. I also found it odd that it had an extra manual in the back. It was a french manual too. The condition of everything looked new, I was just suspicious about the wrapping. It looked like shrink wrap but sealed with some kind of machine. Now I'm wondering why my copy of Nights wasn't so expensive (I paid about 35$ I think, it seemed cheap to me but maybe that's the regular price it goes for. I was expecting it to be more expensive since it was one of the great titles for the system) since it was wrapped in the same stuff.

Yeah I don't think it is a reseal then if it was like that. The fact that two copies of the game arrived like that to different people years apart makes me think thats just how they were shipped out. Maybe with the 2nd manual being in French they were meant for the Canadian market.

Weird, thats how my sealed Killer 7 is for the PS2...I always just kind of assumed it was an odd reseal.
