I have a copy of "Voodoo Vince" that when placed in my xbox, gives me the message, "Unable to read the disc...ensure its a Microsoft Xbox disc..."
When I put it in my computer, I get the message, "This is a microsoft xbox disc, please place it in a microsoft xbox...".
Any insight?
"Unable to read disc" errors
Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
Has it ever worked in an xbox before? Are you certain it's not a cheap burn with a glossy print job?
Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
Just got it off ebay. The disc itself has the shiny "xbox" markings on the top and underside of the disc.
Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
This happened to my brother a few years back. We never could fix it. Some discs worked and some discs didn't. We had to eventually replace the xbox all together.
Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
The DVD drives on the Xbox were junk. This happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago and he bought one of those cheap "laser cleaners" at the drug store. He said it worked magic, which surprised us both. I'd try that. If it doesn't work, look for a new drive on eBay or elsewhere.
Good luck

Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
As already mentioned your dvd drive is probably on it's way out. When that happened to me it started with only certain discs, and sometimes randomly, and eventually everything loaded really slow then it totally died. My solution is the same as it is for pretty much every problem with the xbox, buy a decent sized harddrive and mod it.
Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
I've had my xbox since they first came on the market, and have never had a problem. All my other games are working properly.

Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
Buy a mod chip. You'll never use the disc drive again.

Re: "Unable to read disc" errors
OK. Here's what you're going to do.
Boil some water, enough to fill a bowl.
Fill the bowl with the boiling water.
Place the Xbox game disc in the bowl with the boiling water.
Wait a few minutes. Remove the disc carefully and allow to dry on a clean towel.
When dry, try out the disc.
This used to be a great trick for all of the Xbox demo discs that were unreadable, and I've had success with retail discs as well.
I can't explain why or how it works, but apparently it's fucking science and I'm not one to meddle with the powers of nature.
