Before I buy a PSP I want to make sure I can understand CFW enough to install emulators and update the firmware when needed. Thus, I'm wondering if someone can point me toward a good site that provides guides for doing these sorts of things.
By the way, does anyone know if a "hard modded" PSP is in any way better than just having one with CFW installed. I want to know what to look for when I search craigslist, etc.
Thanks!
Best site for PSP CFW guides?

just do the CFW for the psp,
go to http://forums.qj.net/ its is the best in my opinion, very very good!
also you can buy a pandora battery for cheap on deal xtreme, you would just have to make your own magic stick which is much easier, but i made my own so i cant vouch for the deal xtreme pandorra, i just know they have it for cheap pre-made.

i didn't think there was such a thing as a hard-modded PSP. FWIW, I used PSPMOD.com and had no issues.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.
