Saturn controller/periph switcher device

Post by fingersmaloy »

Hey, so I had sort of a crazy idea I thought would be really cool if it could be realized somehow.

I have kind of a ton of Saturn peripherals, and they all work with different games, all of which I like, so I end up doing a lot of plugging and unplugging, which I hate. Do you think it'd be possible to modify a Saturn multi-tap and turn it into a controller-switching device? That way you could just keep all (well, six) peripherals plugged in all the time and select the one you want to use with a button or slider or something.

Anyone think it can be done? Have any ideas how?

Anything is possible. :)

You'll have to be good at soldering and have a good understanding of electronics. Your biggest problem will be avoiding crosstalk. I'm linking to a page below to a project that is very different from what you are proposing. That said, I think you will be able to learn a bit from what this guy did and apply it to your idea.

Good luck

I think that will work indeed, the problem is what kind of switch are you going to use?
It's all about the switch. I guess the saturn has I dunno 9 wires?
So you need a switch on which you can connect several sets of wires to switch.
4 controllers
4 X 9 connection on a switch! Or maybe there is an intelligent way to do it. Maybe you just need to switch one wire that has the power?

Good starting point!

And I am very curious where this joerney will take you!

EDIT: Or maybe you can indeed just connect everything together, plug six different periherals in and whatever you do on whatever controller works. Who knows! Good luck!
