With the recent rumor that a Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga followup is in the works, I can't help but think of the possibilities of what Treasure could do with their shooter collection.
First of all, supposedly Treasure is looking at the XBox 360. The existing shooters like Geometry Wars have done very well on XBox Live Arcade and probably do better than a limited release on store shelves.
Treasure games don't seem to perform well in retail because the print run is fairly limited and they word doesn't spread about them until they are pretty much out of print. With an online distribution model like the XBLA or the Wii's Virtual Console, that element is erased and it increases the likelyhood that the game will be a viral success.
Continuing on this thought, I could really see a port of both Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga on either the XBLA or Virtual Console. Radiant Silvergun might be the biggest challenge since its originally ran on more complex hardware. Ikaruga was ported to the Gamecube which would make it an easy port to the Wii (not so much to the 360).
However, both games are very small in terms of data size. I'll have to doublecheck to make sure, but a compressed copy of the Saturn version of Radiant Silvergun is about 32MB and a compressed copy of the Dreamcast version of Ikaruga is about 19MBs. These small sizes would make them optimal for a download-and-play environment.
I'd love to hear what you think about this trilogy idea or just the Project RS3 Rumor as a whole.

I am a proud radiant silvergun owner, i say NO to re-releasing it. Its a gem and should stay that way, forever!!!!! im not against people who burn it and play it but its meant to be Sega Saturns treasure and should always stay sega saturns treasure. i respect all people who play it on a saturn (no sorry, i hate people who emulate it on a pc)
The thing about radiant silvergun is that it makes me say, WOW they did that on a Saturn. its the master showpiece.
on the other hand, should they re-work it or re-mix it in some way or another the go ahead, il prolly buy a 360 just for it, but we must keep the original for sega saturn users only, forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a remix would be nice, different enemies, mixed up stages, re-mixed music, enchanced graphix. no to much we arent trying to create a different radiant silvergun but a remix would be great!!!!

it would be nice to see them on XBLA.
I have two reasons for it.
A) More gamers out there would get to see, play and complain (oh there will be complaints about the difficulty) these great games.
B) Treasure is my all time idle. I love this company, they make amazing games surrounding basic gameplay that turns into psychotic impossibilities. They are down right awesome in the way awesome is intended to mean. These people deserve their respect AND their income.

Personally, I'd love to see either HD remixes on XBLA, or some sort of collection of all of Treasure's games. If they had Nintendo publish it, the release shouldn't be limited and with everyone of their games in one place, I'm pretty sure they could easily sell it for $50 and no one would be complaining...cept those whining about difficulty as LoD described. It might be a bit unrealistic, but I think a Dual DVD set would work out great.
Either that, or put them up for dld on WiiWare.
