Finally got back to this after a couple of days of getting sucked into other things. Cleared 8-1 this morning and made it to 8-2. There's a spring I have to hit at the right speed to launch myself over a pillar, but there is a block in the way with a poison mushroom. Crafty buggers. I'm gonna have to study the timing on this a bit more. 8-2 also has a loop in it, so I'm going to have to go for a specific box to get a vine to finish the level. This one will be complicated.

The key to beating 8-1 for me ended up being that mushroom at the beginning to make Luigi grow. I managed to sacrifice the hit to a hammer bro and keep right on trucking. Good times.

I actually recorded my successful runs through each level of world 8 way back when when I played this game. I think I did roughly the same thing on 8-1. Unfortunately, Twitch TV screwed up all my videos and now I only have 8-2 left.

Heh, am I the only person still working on this?

Anyway, I sat down after taking a few days off and rushed through to world 8-3. The 8-2 spring that I was worried about took a little getting used to, but hitting the beanstalk and surviving the pit it was over turned out to be easier than I expected. 8-3 now starts with a lot of jumps and a spring...not looking forward to getting through this one. I made a couple of attempts last night but decided I would go back to the drawing board for a bit to think of the level's strategy.

My intention is to clear 8-4 to beat the game, not to push through to the letter worlds and complete it at this time. Not saying I have no intention of ever doing that, but for the purpose of the challenge, I just want to reach the end of the first playthrough.

I fell off the wagon, I admit it.

Next year I'll just pick one game.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

As I wrote earlier, I have come to discover that "scheduling" games doesn't work for me. I really only enjoy playing whatever is chosen spontaneously. I'm still reading this thread though as it's entertaining.

I won't bother to make a list next year. But anyone who lists 6th gen games as "classics" will continue to feel my wrath.

Y'all will notice that I didn't actually make a list, I've just been trying to snag games from time to time that meet the criteria. Phantasy Star is the current one I'm chipping away at. I expect I'll have one or two more games down that fit with the challenge before it's all over.

But we'll be a whole year more into the next generation! Much of the PS2 generation is over ten years old now. ;)

Plus, Dreamcast. We can count Dreamcast, right?

I may accept Dreamcast launch titles on a case-by-case basis.

Nope. I just went on vacation last week. I am still working through Half-Life, and I will probably pick a few more off my list before calling it quits.

I'm still very much working on this. I was also away for a week on holiday though.

Playing 3 of my summer list at the minute.

Banjo-Tooie is my main focus. I have 74 Jiggies out of 90. Almost done here. Going for completion though!

Final Fantasy VII hasn't been played since before my holiday, but jumping back in this weekend. Looking for the White SeeD ship on disc 3 still.

Metal Gear Solid 3 I'm inside the dark cave after battling Ocelot. I think I might be fighting The Pain soon.

I'm planning on starting up Curse of Monkey Island after Banjo is finished.
