Me and you agree on a lot of thing when it comes to gaming, but your hated of everything 5th gen and onwards is not one of them.

Bone and I also agree on a lot of things, he understands Ys and Phantasy Star are awesome for example. If I could just get him into the King's Field series we could truly be bros.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I'm currently in Atlantis. I just navigated a maze section with Nazis roaming around and am now in a canal with a floating crab thingy. I might have gotten farther, but between some tech issues last night and the amount of backtracking I had to do to get through this, it just wasn't happening. Case in point, I made it through to the canal and then discovered the spindle, so I had to navigate back to the start of the maze to get the sunstone, moonstone, and earthstone. I didn't think I would need them anymore because that was the first time in the game I could put them on a spindle and walk away. Why did that change?

I like this part less than the pre-Atlantis section where I explored the Path of Wits. It still has that LucasArts flare, but I don't think it is as much fun. I also encountered a glitch during this section; I encountered a Nazi but managed to walk away before he started speaking. This caused the responses I could have picked from to pop up on the screen in the map and cover up the action menu. It was a weird bug.

I don't really have a hatred of 5th gen onward. Didya see my post in the Rank the Gens thread? I also feel like one of the strongest defenders of the N64 around here. Mostly I'm just jokin' around. Though I do admittedly mostly prefer retro stuff.

Rare had some good stuff on N64 like Killer Instinct Gold, Blast Corps, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, even Jet Force Gemini (which admittedly has some annoying elements).

But their platformers from that era. Yikes.

Glad you like the game though.

And I do like it so far :). I think it's probably a bit too ambitious though - I liked the smaller and more focused worlds of the original Banjo Kazooie more than the large worlds in this one. This has worlds as big as the ones in DK64, but they had a lot more to collect in them, whereas Tooie is more spread out.

My experience with Rare in the era mostly revolves around the platformers. I happen to prefer Rare's platformers to Mario 64 myself. Sure, there's a bunch of extra collectables, but the actual main gameplay feels faster paced to me - you can grab all 10 jiggies in a level of Banjo Kazooie in one run, whereas Mario 64 will make you play through the same parts of a level over and over as you keep having to re-enter after getting a star.

I even like DK64. I never had an issue with the amount of collectables tbh.

Jet Force Gemini is fast approaching on my alphabet list. I'm on game H right now, so not too far off. I'm not looking forward to saving the primals.

As for Rare's FPS output on the system, it's not really my thing. I've played through Perfect Dark, and I definitely respect it, but the genre just doesn't do much for me.

I picked up Blast Corps recently, look forward to giving it a go too.

Rescuing the Primals is the worst part of Jet Force Gemini, easily, but even then it's still a good game. You might have mixed feelings on it though, as there is a heavy FPS element to it. As a fan of FPS, I wish the entire game had been done in that style.

Killer Instinct Gold is one of the best fighting games on the N64. I realize most folks will claim that isn't saying much, but there are actually quite a few, and KI:G is one of the best.

It's Rare's best N64 game. Better than Perfect Dark. Better than GoldenEye.

Blast Corps was absolutely phenomenal! My cousin had a N64 before me and he was a pretty typical bro. Our meat and potatoes when playing together involved WCW vs. NWO: World Tour, Nba Courtside (which has the awesome athlete/movie star George Muresan!) and Cruis'n USA. When he got Blast Corps, because it had bulldozers and the like in it, we had an absolute blast playing it. We would sit there puzzling over the best plan of action, of finding secrets and trying to get to them and spending an inordinate amount of time just blowing shit up. What a fulfilling game.

As for the Banjo Kazooie games, having played and beaten the first completely, the amount of collectibles are tiny. You have small, contained levels that have Jinjos to collect for puzzle pieces, notes for puzzle pieces, and puzzle pieces themselves. Outside of that, the things you collect are essentially ammo for your abilities, which you never have an issue running out of.

The platforming is great, the art style and level design is great and the characters are full of life. It is fantastic. The collect-a-thon argument I feel is unwarranted for that title in particular.

I really do need to grab Banjo Tooie though, just to try.

Also, I think Conker's Bad Fur Day does a great job in the collectible market as everything you collect has a voice and is hysterical. Man I need to replay that game. I wonder how the Xbox version of it plays in comparison to the N64?
