Flash carts are fun on a bun.ZeroAX wrote:I don't know about console flash cards.....I mean with emulation for those old consoles being so good, ain't it just easier to buy a USB adaptor for the SNES controller? Of course if I had a flash card I'd use it, but I think they are too expensive to be an impulse buy, and I know myself and I will still want to own the original cartridges of any games I might like
Well it depends on your personal opinion and also how you plan on using the flash cart. Right, they're too expensive to be an impulse buy.
You can still put up the same real hardware versus emulation debate. If you use a flash cart, you're still using real hardware. Most of the time, there is absolutely NO difference between using a flash cart and using a real cart. A few exceptions apply, but most of the time it's the same exact thing.
I totally agree, I love owning original carts. There's actually been instances where I tried a game on my flash cart, found out I liked it, then picked up the real cart (and like I said, I'm able to transfer my saves from the flash cart to real cart so that works out nicely). But that's where the "are you a collector or a gamer" debate comes in. For some one that just wants to play the games, and on real hardware, that person wont care if they're playing them from a flash cart or a legit cart. If you consider how large and expensive the SNES library is, a flash cart is just more cost effective. Even if you only want to play the best of the best SNES games, those games cost at least as much as one flash cart. Probably more.
Then there's fan translations and game hacks/mods. Even if you're hell bent on playing only legit carts of officially released games, there's still good reasons for a flash cart. There's tons of great fan translated games out there. Then there's hacks and mods and unreleased games. Sure, you can get "repro" carts, but I've already put up my repro versus flash cart debate enough times. I'll just point out that 2 or 3 SNES repros should be enough money to buy you an Everdrive instead, and you're better off with one.
