When it has a modern remake aping the same name as itself.

I feel like VR is going to go through these growing pains where everything will be expected to be as real and immersive as possible before developers start to realize they can have fun with it.
To begin with, I am super excited about the possibility of exploratory based VR games. Scuba diving simulators, haunted house simulators, alien planet simulators, that sort of thing. Beyond virtual vacations I can imagine a whole host of innovative concepts for VR and gaming. But it's outside the scope of this thread. I'm just glad to still be excited about this medium in at least one regard (because super pretty interactive movies aren't my thing). Although to be honest with you guys, I've been stoked about VR possibilities since I bought this book back in 1995.

For some reason, I always think Spelunky is a modern remake of this:

Nope. This is the modern remake. Supposedly, it is only OK, but very faithful to the original.

not at all, no.

I used to love Spelunker, though. We're getting so totally OT now, haha.

Haha, I had that same book. I remember it came with a bunch of shareware discs. One of the things I remember the most from it was the author describing how it felt to play Doom.

I'm excited for VR as well, don't get me wrong, but I'm not the early adopter type and will wait until it evolves into something more ubiquitous.

I'm hoping that OSVR results in the ubiquitous part. And I'm happy to see the new HDK revision being released in July has gotten some hype from E3 on various news sites. I picked up the last version of the HDK to mess around with - it ran me ~$250 which is far more in line with the price I wanted to pay to experiment w/ something than the $600 and $800 that the Rift and Vive demand for their console wars "exclusives."
