Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Well here are my resolutions for Retro and Modern gaming 2015:
1. Play more and beat games that I own and buy less of things that I am kinda of interested in. If I do buy a game it would have to be something that I want or a really good deal. Just this weekend I got a complete long box copy of Kings Field on the PS1 for $10 in good condition. That is the kinda of deals that I like and don't feel to guilty about buying. Its better than paying the $50 dollars or so that I see on the Bay.
2. I would like to take my lose carts and get some UGC's and make some nice covers. This would allow me to have better organization and make everything look nicer as plus.
3. I want to try to be more active in this community. I always read the articles and forums all the time, but I want to just be more involved in the discussion of gaming related topics and events.
4. Last but not least; try and take some pics of my gaming set up and share it on here. I love seeing all sorts of gaming rooms and set-ups and the goodies that are in them. So I hope to make that happen.
All in all simple but effective goals for the new year. The hardiest one is not buying more and more games. I think that the collector in me fights with my sensible side in that it says " are you really going to play that or are you just wanting to have for no better reason" lol. Its a hard battle but most time my sensible side wins but not all the time.
So here is to the new year so far!

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
My only gaming resolution is to actually beat the games I begin playing. I can't even really contribute to the Games Beaten thread as I am more in the "games got to the last dungeon/level but then just gave up thread"
Zelda minish cap, mario rpg, xenosaga, banjo kazooie, borderlands 2 are just a few games I got fairly far in last year and just stopped playing

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
I should write my goals down. If someone else sees them, then I can't pretend I never set them in the first place.
1. Focus my gaming a bit. When I finish or retire a game, I go through this "Lets look at every system I own and figure out what the ideal next game is", and that not only stops me from playing a lot of games, but its just painful to go through. So, my focus this year, assuming I can stick to it, will be twofold. First, I would like to really dig into the Sega consoles, particularly the Genesis and Saturn, though the DC will certainly see some play as well. Each of these consoles is interesting to me for one reason or another, and there are far too many games I want to play there. Limiting myself to just one of their consoles would not work, so I think this is the best option. Second, I want to focus on current-gen stuff. I am always at least one generation behind, and even now that I own a Wii U, I'm not taking as much advantage of it as I could. So, Wii U, 3DS, and possibly ps4 stuff will be what I look to when not playing Sega stuff. Its a pretty wide array of games still, but I know that limiting myself too much will just make me break down once I need a change.
2. Get better at Sonic speedruns, possibly learn one more game for speedrunning. My fight with getting the capture card and stream to all work together has really discouraged me from doing Sonic runs recently, and I just need to get over it and either stream from emulator, or just record from the Genesis and not stream. I really just need to put in the hours now, as I am quite familiar with the game and its tricks. However, the actual process of learning a run is very fun to me, so I am considering learning one more game as an aside to Sonic, though for now I plan on keeping my focus mainly on Sonic.
3. Shmups. I have been pretty much entirely out of the shmup scene for at least a year now, and I've recently had the itch to get back into it. I don't want to commit to a particular game, in regards to chasing some insane score, as I'm just not sure which game it would be, and I want to have the chance to play a bunch without being set on one, so I can hopefully be captivated enough to really push something further than "somewhat decent", which is where I feel I usually stop in these harder gaming goals. Scoring aside, though, if I could pick one goal here, it would be to 1cc Mushihimesama Futari God Mode, with Palm. I've made it to stage 4, but I'm still quite far from any consistency or a clear.
4. Get better at Beatmania. I freakin love this game, but I am terrible at it. I would like to get better.
5. This kinda touches on some previous points, but I really want to push myself to a higher tier than I ever have with gaming. I feel like I always get to "Almost good" when I push myself, and then drop out. Its easy for me to spend a few hundred hours getting a speedrun or score attack up to maybe 80% of what I want it to be, because progress is fast in those early times, but I really want to push it juuust a little higher, and actually accomplish something great. I know, I know, its just games, but even though it can be difficult, nothing beats the feeling of overcoming something that once seemed nearly impossible. As an aside to this, however, I also need to not take this too seriously. I need to relax, and enjoy each step, and not go crazy and start ranting on forums

I'm going to have to edit my goals. May have set my goals too fast without thinking them through
