I guess that depends how you understand "slur".
I usually see it as a word that is understood to refer to a group with the express purpose of dehumanizing them.

I think his point is the common use of the term here makes the forum look bad. It ostracizes some gamers who enjoy those games and gives an elitist mentality or environment here. I believe he generally wants racketboy to be more welcoming to all sorts of gamers. But instead this term is made up by some out of seeming resentment for those who like different games. It just makes those who use it seem spiteful almost that their pet genre isn't the most popular at the moment.

I personally break this mold. I enjoy games like BF3, gears and football sports games. While I also play the hell out of niche jrpgs and more classic retro styled games as well. Had this derision been tossed around a bunch while I was new here, I might have been persuaded to find a different community.

I don't think that it is used to "dehumanize" necessarily, but it is frequently used to denigrate on the basis of gaming habits and to exclude from "better" classes of gamers.

By being less of an elitist do we feel more elite than the elitists?

Only half trolling. Really, aren't we being elite in a different way here?

Um no? I am not much of a shmups fan, but I respect the genre. I don't deride them for having a gaming preference different than mine. We just don't have to be petty or fanboyish. The dudebro thing reminds me a lot of how fanboys act..

See, dudebro to me has always been a combination of frat boy and Halo/Madden. Lots of hardcore Halo players don't fit into that category. It's not just "people who only play X".

There! See? Your saying people who use the term "dudebro" are fanboys. Isn't that sort of attitude what is being complained about?

No because I am relating the 2. When you say fanboys you are talking about those who deride others for not likin their console or genre or game of choice. Its similar to saying that person who is acting biased is behaving similar to a racist. That doesn't make me an elitist about racists. We are saying we don't want people to act negatively to other groups simply because they like a certain game or type of game. Its all context.
