Nintendo: Project Cafe - Wii U
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe
Re: Nintendo: Project Cafe
Sadly at this point all we can do is speculate. Even with mockups, claims of companies helping out, and the best video game rumor mills in the world, this is all pure speculation. We'll have to wait for E3 to get the real skinny.
Anyway, some folks have asked about how this will affect the Wii. It will, but Nintendo is probably ok with that. The Nintendo Wii had multiple stellar years in terms of sales, but the console market isn't the only place in video games where Nintendo dominates. They've owned the handheld market since the days of Game Boy, and it has saved them in the past when their consoles were selling poorly. I'm sure they're more than willing (and financially able) to spend a year banking on the success of the 3DS while they continue to develop this "Project Cafe." The little handheld has already been doing well and offered up some quality games (how many of you have I heard discussing your handheld Street Fighter IV matches on here?), and at E3 I expect more will be announced as coming out during the Christmas season.
Besides, Nintendo has already heavily saturated the market with the Wii, so it's doubtful it would continue to sell even if new AAA titles were being announced for it. By announcing this new console more than a year in advance, they may be trying to give their large market of users the chance to budget for an upgrade, as opposed to just popping out a new machine unexpectedly and expecting people to immediately go for it. And consoles usually aren't announced the same year they're released anyway, as development time can take a while and third party support must be confirmed. Nintendo is doing its best to pump up hype well in advance.
As for the controller...let's wait and see. Everything now is pure speculation. And controller designs are notorious for changing during development. Plus Nintendo may have the funds to blow on taking a loss on technology if they expect to earn money on games and from the 3DS. As for the price, controllers are already agonizingly expensive to me. But again, we must wait and see.
As was stated before, Nintendo has been in this game for a long time, and they've done it through learning how to market themselves and how to create what their fans want. They're also adept at taking risks, and even when something falls through, they have the handheld market to support them in times of need. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Re: Nintendo Wii 2 Codenamed 'Project Cafe'
What the fuck, why is the 'father' a Mega Drive? Surely it should be an N64 or a NES or something? Did it take anyone a while to figure out that the thing dying was a Gamecube?GSZX1337 wrote:Xeogred wrote:I am not amused by this.sevin0seven wrote: *The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword may launch at the same time as Project Cafe. I'm glad Nintendo has officially said something. I know its gaming journalism but that article was biased as hell against Nintendo. If you're only experience with gaming this gen was that article you would think Nintendo is on its last legs.

Yea, I love how that article makes it seem like Nintendo is in a dire situation. Of course, they forgot to mention that Nintendo can print their own money as needed.
