You make a good point. However, don't forget about X-Men: Destiny - a game which sounds like a beefed up version of Marvel Alliance with just the X-Men characters. The game is apparently priding itself on showcasing more obscure, high-demand muties. Even though I know Capcom has nothing to do with that game, I'm sure Marvel will consider this when going through the approval process for new MvC3 fighters who also happen to appear in Destiny.the7k wrote: I get the feeling the only characters they'll be allowing for the update will be characters that will be appearing in upcoming big-name comic book series and/or blockbuster movies.
As for Capcom's side - why is Hayato irrelevant? I understand that there hasn't been a new Plasma Sword game since the Dreamcast days, but such a reason didn't stop them from throwing Darkstalkers characters into the mix, (which I'm all for!) Sure, Hayato may not have been featured a lot in tourney play, but he's a solid beginner to middle tier character, and I know a ton of people who rock him!
Maybe Capcom would have sold more copies if they focused more on easy-to-pick-up-and-play characters like Cyclops and Hayato, rather than powerful but learning-curve-necessary characters like Phoenix and Wesker..
