You make a good point. However, don't forget about X-Men: Destiny - a game which sounds like a beefed up version of Marvel Alliance with just the X-Men characters. The game is apparently priding itself on showcasing more obscure, high-demand muties. Even though I know Capcom has nothing to do with that game, I'm sure Marvel will consider this when going through the approval process for new MvC3 fighters who also happen to appear in Destiny.
As for Capcom's side - why is Hayato irrelevant? I understand that there hasn't been a new Plasma Sword game since the Dreamcast days, but such a reason didn't stop them from throwing Darkstalkers characters into the mix, (which I'm all for!) Sure, Hayato may not have been featured a lot in tourney play, but he's a solid beginner to middle tier character, and I know a ton of people who rock him!
Maybe Capcom would have sold more copies if they focused more on easy-to-pick-up-and-play characters like Cyclops and Hayato, rather than powerful but learning-curve-necessary characters like Phoenix and Wesker..

There's plenty of characters who are easy to pick up and powerful as all bloody hell. See Akuma, Wolverine, Sentinel, and everyone else that has a 90% usage online.

Darkstalkers is different from Plasma Sword in a few ways. For one, Darkstalkers is still played to this day in Japan. Hell, I've even seen Darkstalkers tournaments pop up in America. Don't see that with Plasma Sword.

Moreover, the characters are highly recognizable because they have appeared in dozens of other games. Even people who haven't heard of Darkstalkers know who Morrigan and Felicia are. That's just the way it is.

I'd honestly expect a Rival Schools character to show up in MvC3 before Plasma Sword. Much like Darkstalkers, there is a strong demand by fans to see more of the series. Also like Darkstalkers, the characters do make sporadic appearances in crossover games (Capcom vs SNK 2 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, for instance). Until I see people demanding a third entry in the Plasma Sword series, I don't see Hayato showing up. In fact, I'd say before we see Plasma Sword, we'll likely see characters from Rival Schools, Power Stone, Cyberbots, Red Earth, and Captain Commando before we see Hayato again.

Of course, I could be wrong. Nothing against Hayato, although I honestly feel like we've already got enough sword wielders in this game. He's also like the one character from MvC2 I hear almost no one mention. Cable and Ruby Heart seem to be the MvC2 newcomers that most people want for MvC3.

There are already a good amount of Marvel characters in MvC3 that have no relevance to any big-name stuff Marvel has going on right now. There are some fairly obscure characters on the Capcom roster as well.

Anything is possible, we will just have to wait and see.

You think Capcom'll release this on PSN for $15 bucks, kinda like SSF4 AE?

Now, I only play this game so I won't be utter crap when playing friends, so I don't really care about this revision. But if I'm able to play as Megaman, preferably Megaman Volnutt, Roll, or Phoenix Wright, I'm game.

Not with as many characters n' things as they're saying.

Though I'll believe it when I see it with regard to existing DLC characters being rolled in. SFIV's costumes haven't been included in subsequent releases at all. They've just added more, and allowed you to continue using the ones you bought before. Even the retail release of AE doesn't include them.
Maybe they'll do something differently with MvC, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the trend continue of having DLC carry over into the subsequent revisions rather than get included.

What the hell is up with that lifebar? Seems backwards as hell. Shouldn't I be able to monitor the life of my team mates easily?

wow, ok. I was totally against SSF4AE. But THIS looks like something I'd actually care about update-wise. I mean Firebrand? Hawkeye! ...and with 8 fighters still not revealed, there's hope for more Darkstalkers. Considering MvC3 has been one of my favorite games of the year, I'm actually interested in this update.

On a side note, new Mega Man Legends inspired stage on UMvC3: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/9 ... A1500_.jpg

Seems like Capcom is the one that likes most to piss on that grave.
