From what I heard, it was sony that didn't want to renew the contract with cave.. I've heard various conflicting reports, some say it's Cave wanting to go to Xbox and others say Sony didn't want the primitive software running on their hardware..
Sony never had any contract with them.

Cave used to put out their software on all manner of console, Saturn and PS1. Later on the PS2 became the logical choice because in Japan it was a complete phenomenon and utterly crushed everything there last gen like you wouldn't believe. For example, you know how big it was here in the US? Now double, no TRIPLE that in Japan and you have a pretty close picture of it.

Also, while Sony makes more money in terms of total untaxed revenue that's because of how large thy are after tax and coupled with R&D and spreading it all around they make barely enough to pay everyone and manufacture more product. Microsoft still has the most liquid burnable "do whatever with it" cash of any company on the planet last time I checked. After all MS did spend over $7 billion on the entire Xbox line and STILL hasn't ever turned a profit on it.
The smart guys like Atlus & Co I see keeping things A-OK and still leaving things region free.

It's the widely known but purposely niche people like CAVE with their superiority complexes that get me scared.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I think you meant this last post for the other thread.. As for MS being the largest, that really isn't true... Microsoft has turned in a profit for 2009, but both companies aren't as big as they used to be.. With the emergence of Apple in the 2000s, Microsoft has actually lost money, and Sony well, they are still huge but I think the format wars has actually hurt the company as a whole, and they have had to compete with big daddy Samsung, which has just been tearing it up in recent years... I just think MS was willing to spend the money, while Sony made stupid decisions early in the generation... Both are huge companies that can write blank checks for their respective divisions and probably won't go anywhere anytime soon..

Not true if you want the top companies for "do whatever with it" and "most liquid burnable" look no further than evil empire Wal-Mart... Have they ever taken a loss? LMAO!!!

I always thought the 'primitive software' deal was more a "Sony of America" thing than Sony of Japan. There was plenty of 'primitive software' on the PS1 and PS2 in Japan, it's just that Sony of America never allowed trash like Cotton or Sexy Parodius because they wanted to make sure there was plenty of room for incredible, system-defining software like Gekido, Fighting Force and Batman Forever: The Arcade Game.

Well you do know that the man who put together the PS1's US launch and was responsible for the policies that SCEA US follows until today is right?

Bernie Stolar.

But only for a short before period being fired and moving to Sega where he remained until the end of his tenure in the gaming industry.

Don't forget his personal vendetta against RPGs, where he argued they didn't and couldn't interest American gamers in the slightest, even after Final Fantasy VII became one of the best selling games of all time.

You'd think Yuji Horii and Hironobu Sakaguchi murdered his entire family with sharpened Famicom cartridges.
