Before the preview, I was telling my friends how boring it would be if they would stay there without any more problems....living.
Anyways...Shane is a dick, but someone had to do it. Granted they're disrespecting Hershel's space, but still...come the fuck on. Keeping zombies alive and contained in a barn is not sensible. When Shane was "presenting his argument" and shot the zombie to show him that they weren't human, I was happy, something was needed to done to show that fucking guy what the deal is. That old man needs to learn to not be so hard headed.
I don't like dealing in hypothetical situations personally. I like dealing with what is and what can be proven. I think Shane's argument falls apart because Hershel and his people were doing fine for all that time before Rick's crew showed up. So for me, the whole keeping zombies alive in a barn isn't sensible argument just falls flat for me personally. Hershel seemed to have a handle on controlling these things, much like you'd control cattle or dangerous zoo animals. Of course, we're trained by hundreds of zombie movies and games to assume that something bad would eventually happen, but nothing that I saw proved that, which makes Shane's actions irrational to me.
Shane wants to be Rick, and that's all there is to it. This was his chance to take leadership of the group and prove to Lori and Carl that he's better than Rick. That is the ONLY reason he did what he did. He can cover it up with words that sound sensible to the group, but what he did was selfishly motivated. Shane would make a great politician. He knows how to try and win over a group and he doesn't seem unwilling from all the clues we've been given to violently deal with anyone who opposes him. Shane's dangerous, and I'd want him out of the group ASAP. If I was in charge, he'd be gone and I'd make sure of it personally if I had to. That's what Rick is too weak to do unfortunately
Also, I don't think Hershel was being hard headed. He was starting to compromise and Shane ruined that, as both Rick and Dale(a.k.a the sensible ones)knew he would
