Given that "patriotism" was synonymous with "anti-communism" at the time, I'll leave that to your own philosophical leanings.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Showing patriotism in a movie isn't really propaganda, as far as I can see.
What was the last movie you've seen?

Saying "war is bad" isn't propaganda. War is bad.

Right, so would you consider a communist wrong for making a movie about how great his country and the idealism of communism is right? I don't see the problem here. Its being proud of where you live or the style of life you live. I'm not seeing that as propaganda. If I understand you correctly, waking up and saying "I love my country" is spreading propaganda?sabrage wrote:Saying "war is bad" isn't propaganda. Eh, John Wayne (and his popularity) seems more a product of his time than the other way around.

Does the word "indoctrination" mean anything to you? The problem isn't love of one's country, it's the use of that love as an excuse to burn the flesh off of human beings to prove your dick is bigger.Forlorn Drifter wrote: Right, so would you consider a communist wrong for making a movie about how great his country and the idealism of communism is right? Alright, I see what your saying. My question then... how is the Alamo propaganda? Wanting freedom for your group of people from another, and dying trying to get, creates a propaganda film? The other two you mentioned I understand.sabrage wrote:Does the word "indoctrination" mean anything to you? Well, a lot of the mythos surrounding The Alamo stems from the romanticized image created by that very movie. Don't forget that the Texians were inhabiting historically Mexican land and a large part of the conflict stemmed from the inability to keep slaves under the Mexican constitution. Interpretations of the moral justifications for the war are obviously going to differ depending on your view of American imperialism.

Anne Hathaway is in the new bat flick? And death threats to critics who go against the flow and review the film for what it actually is? I know this will be one pile of pretence I'll be skipping this summer.

John Wayne didn't write the movies, he just starred in them. You should be directing that disdain towards the writers of those movies.

Funny you should use the word "directing".BurningDoom wrote:John Wayne didn't write the movies, he just starred in them. You should be directing that disdain towards the writers of those movies.
